Password Change - In short - DONT DO IT...You will be sorry

I changed my password the other day and My Firestick is still able to access the server but its now not logged in. If i log in it cant access the server…says server (server is the name of my server…I know it not mind blowing) not found. All my computers that access plex by web is now saying that its unavailable or i get a XML file that shows. I have looked and looked on how to fix it. There is not much out there on fixing this on a windows server. All i found is DON’T CHANGE YOU PASSWORD or you will be sorry.
So i did get it fix…a complete reinstall of plex…thanks Plex!

Did you change your Windows user password or your Plex.tv account password?

Changed it here on Plex.tv site.

Did you remove the firestick tile from the authorised devices? Then re-link

Changing the password did probably also remove the login of the server.
And all clients as well.

Logging in the clients is easily done, but the server can be difficult sometimes. Particularly when you are juggling with more than one plex.tv account.
This procedure allows you to reclaim your server: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/

I was not able to get there after the password change. The firestick still worked but was not logged in…once i logged into the account the firestick could not see the server.

That link you have is one of the ones that i found as well…

removing:

  • PlexOnlineHome
  • PlexOnlineMail
  • PlexOnlineToken
  • PlexOnlineUsername

Didn’t work for me.

I did get it all fixed…and I was able to recover all the info…so i didnt have to edit over 3000 movies and 200 TV series.

install Plex
Remove the left over Plex folder in the program files area.
Remove the Plex folder in the reg
make a backup copy of the plex server folder in the user/appdata folder but dont delete it.
reinstall plex…
