I have a rather large musig library with about 300,000 songs and 3,000 artists. I recently got a plex pass and started creating an advanced music library to compare with the existing normal music library. I’m now on day two and the scan is still ongoing. During this time I’ve added a few movies that I would to add to the movie library but I can’t until this music scann is complete. It would be nice to be able to pause one scan and do another then come back and pick up the scan where it left off. The only options I have are to let it run or cancel it and start over from scratch later.
a better idea would be that plex automatically temporarily suspend long rescans so that other libraries can be scanned.
I have the same problem, scanning in a new library with ~200k tracks, it takes several days and the constant scanning blocks other library scans and background updates.
the database should never or rarely be blocked more than 30-60 seconds at time. Any scan or process should be suspended and resumed after the db becomes idle again.
consider, for just 100k tracks, scanning ~1 track per second is almost 28 hours.
now, granted this primarily applies to scanning in NEW content.
rescanning existing content with no changes, is obviously much faster.
but either way, no library scan should block other library scans or other plex processes or updates.
it does make you wonder why PLEX can’t scan more than one library at a time.
