Just signed up for plex pass to start using the DVR functionality after coming across a post about the PCTV 292e being “Community Supported”. I own two of these and I’m pretty keen to start using them with plex. When I’m trying to setup DVR, I just get the “Looking for compatible devices…” message endlessly.
Noticed in the Tuner Log it succesfully finds them:
v4l::DeviceGetList_impl. Successfully opened frontend /dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0
v4l::DeviceGetList_impl. Successfully opened frontend /dev/dvb/adapter1/frontend0
…
dvb_device_factory_t::get_device_list. Id dvb#v4l#0#/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb1/1-1/1-1.5/1-1.5:1.0, Name PCTV 292e, Standards 3
dvb_device_factory_t::get_device_list. Id dvb#v4l#0#/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb1/1-1/1-1.6/1-1.6:1.0, Name PCTV 292e, Standards 3
But in the Plex Media Server Log it says:
DVR:Grabber: Ignoring (PCTV 292e) which is an unsupported tuner device.
DVR:Grabber: Ignoring (PCTV 292e) which is an unsupported tuner device.
I’m confused about what “Community Supported” means, I presumed that meant they would work but I wouldn’t get any official support whilst using them, only community support. Can anyone please clarify? Do I need some special build of Plex to use these?
FYI in case it matters:
Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
Plex 1.10.1.4561-9de2951fc
Hauppauge PPA drivers

Please read [1] and fill out the questionnaire at the end if you are interested.

Thanks for the response. I already came across that, but it doesn’t specifically say whether I need some special build which I’m assuming I do?

No. As far as I know it’s just a special flag in your plex account
Still not clear on this. So you can’t actually use “Communtity Supported” tuners unless you have a special flag on your account?
Please don’t post in the 'DVR and Live TV" section of the forum asking for help - there’s a sub-forum, aptly named “Community Supported Tuners” where questions would best be asked for your tuner.
I noticed in an announcement post there your tuner is listed, but it seems to be using different drivers?
Reference “Community Supported Tuner List” - “Linux DVB API”
The person that agreed to answer questions regarding that tuner is also “@” linked.

Fill out the questionnaire and the Plex devs will eventually enable this feature / flag for your account, just as the above link tells you to do. Till then, this feature is disabled for you.

I know there is a sub forum, that’s where all the info has come from. It seems you have to have been selected to be able to post anything in there though and so this is the only relevant place to post. I’m pretty sure this isn’t a driver issue and that ultimately I’m using the Linux DVB API anyway.

I did that prior to making this thread
It’s just not explicitly stated anywhere that it’s required or that you need some special flag enabling on your account.

@Glen_f can you offer any guidance to this user.
I see that @Glen_f has a role of “TunerTester” which is most likely what gives you the ability to use any tuner and access to the subforum!
For anyone finding there way here, you do need the “TunerTester” role which you can get by filling out the questionnaire mentioned above (below if you’re reading the accepted answer ;)).
Thanks for everyones help
