Per-user DLNA

Hi,

Multi-user support for DLNA would be great :D .

Even just allowing us to define which user is actually used in the DLNA device profile XML file or through some other intermediate configuration file.

Nothing fancy, i just want to restrict which DLNA devices can view which libraries; and of course want to keep track of unwatched shows on a per-user basis.

DLNA is not designed for multi-user.

there actually is a possibility of this. right now the view state is based on "server admins" as it has always been but might be configurable to be someone elses on the server.  though it will only be able to one account that won't be on switchable through any login mechanism.

when or if this might happen, who knows.

Even though DLNA has no user support I would really like to have DLNA devices separate from the primary server account.

Some options I think might work:

1. Treat all DLNA devices as a special DLNA or anonymous account

2. Detect a unique attribute for a device (I believe DLNA devices have a unique value of some kind) then treat each device as a user) they are all on the same subnet so maybe the MAC address?

3. Advanced, allow the plex admin to assign devices based on IP to a user... Assumes an advanced user that has set static IPs for devices.

I second this. Basically, i want to share content that cant be accessed via DLNA, but by PlexPass users (porn to be quite honest). If we could simply toggle a flag for each top level folder in plex like "index for DLNA" that would cause DLNA to show or not show the content would be great!

Just to be able to define what shares are available via DLNA would be a step forward

I'm not a fan of DLNA but you can find it every where in your house or a friend's house. And so, just a small set of features that should be relatively easy to add would make a huge difference:

1- Include/Exclude sections to be accessible through DLNA. One should be able to exclude Channels as well.

(An embarrassing situation could happen if you have both photo upload and DLNA enabled, then someone with a DLNA app vists you) <---- This is a must. I was surprised when I learned it wasn't possible.

2- Cast to DLNA. I know we have plenty of options out there, Plex Home Theater, GoogleTV, Chromecast, etc.. But adding casting to DLNA devices under the same menu could be helpful for many. (I love my chromecast, but sometimes DLNA can getaway without trans coding, resulting in a slightly better experience)

^This dude gets it. I third the request.

I’m in…

A flag in a Library to indicate whether or not it should be included in DLNA is sufficient. This makes it very simple to share out general items but block access to things like R-rated movies from the kiddos simply by putting them in a different library that isn’t included in the DLNA listing.

I agree, a flag in each Library would suffice for my needs. I can see where more robust options would be useful to some, but this might be a good starting point.

Unfortunately, I have no more votes to give.
