I primarily use Plex for OVA recording, as such I share my TV library with neighbors and my parents who live away. My neighbors have their own account and as such sharing is straight forward, my parents use a managed account crated via my plex pass account. I have two issues with the setup:
- I’ve setup a wifi bridge to share my library with my neighbours via their wifi. System works, but I see no way to limit their access to my server to only work via our wifi link. As such I sometime see that they end up using my public IP to watch content remotely. We’ve setup port forwarding from their public IP to our wifi link, and added the info as Custom server raccess URL, but it’s still hit & miss about which public IP will end up handing their traffic.
Suggestion: Would be great to have a way to specify which access URLs are allowed to be used by a shared user.
- My parents are not tech savy. As such sometimes they end up choosing my main plex account via their plex app and we end up interfering with each other’s process. Few times I called them and walked them though switching back to their managed account, but it is a frustrating experience, for all of us.
Suggestion: Allow the server administrator to switch which user is being used by a particular remote client without any interaction from the user of said client. So if my parents accidentally selected my account, I can quietly switch them back and next time they open up the app, they will senselessly continue using their account. For bonus points, it would be great to force a particular client to use a particular managed user (get rid of their choice to begin with).
Overall I’m very pleased with the service. The two issues above are often a point of daily annoyance (especially #2). Thank you for your efforts.
Cheers,
Gene
