I have started archiving several youtube channels to keep a copy in case channels are removed due to strikes. I am using youtube-dl with --add-metadata to embed the video title into Movie name and channel name into ARTIST (as shown by mediainfo).
The problem I am having is that despite enabling Local Media Assets in Movies > Personal Media and Shows > Personal Media Shows and ensuring they are both at the top of their lists, the names of all the YouTube videos are still the filename, which I have beginning with YYYYMMDD for sorting purposes when viewing the files (in terminal or whatever).
Does anyone know how I can get Plex to use the Metadata names as the media name? I have my YouTube library configured as Other Videos with Scanner: Plex Video Files Scanner and Agent: Personal Media
Here is an example of the “General” section output from mediainfo:

Could you provide a link to one of these files with the embedded metadata?
It looks like we’re only checking in one place for embedded titles, so it may be that we just have to expand on this.
Ah that makes sense! Here’s one of the smaller videos:
Title should be TWL is back! (But not here...) exactly.
I guess the solution would be to use this new field if a title wasn’t found in any fields that are already checked?
P.S Oh and also maybe something useful could be done with “ARTIST” / “Half as Interesting”, but I’m not sure if it’s obvious what to do with that since I haven’t put much thought into it. Perhaps studio or something so browsing youtube videos doesn’t have to be done using folder view.
P.P.S Also I’m not entirely sure if the date is being processed correctly either, I remember seeing incorrect years in the library so i’ll have to double check.
P.P.P.S So it looks like Plex is using the file creation or lastmod date as the “Originally Available” date which is just when I downloaded the video. I think should be pulled from the metadata date field
@drzoidberg33 Hey is there any update on this? Thanks!
@Stephen304 Thanks for the sample, I’ll open this up for discussion with the team.
Hey @drzoidberg33 Just checking in to see if there is any update to this? I updated to the latest plex server and imported more YT videos and see that this issue still persists.

@drzoidberg33 Bump
I’ve added this to our internal issue tracker so it’s on the radar but not a super high priority task right now so I cannot really tell you much more at this stage. I’ll update you though when this is something you can test out.
@drzoidberg33 Fair enough. I’m just wary of bugs being “on the radar” since I have had experiences with multiple companies of bugs that break my workflow being on internal trackers for years without any progress towards a fix. Coupled with the fact that Plex can already extract metadata from media, so it’s just a matter of adding support for these specific metadata fields, and you can understand my frustration.
I’m also interested in the status of development for the very same reason. Plex is amazing in so many ways. I would love to be able to keep Plex as my only video portal for viewing all my content.
