PGS subtitles cause plex "new player" to transcode video

I have a file with OPUS audio and PGS subtitles. While viewing on the nvidia shield, if I pick the option to use the “new player” the video will transcode. However it will direct play fine using the old player.

I have tried changing the subtitles to image format only/automatic as well but the new player will always transcode the file where as the old player will direct play just fine.

Same issues keep coming up which all have to do with the antiquated exoplayer being used within the plex android and firetv apps.

Vote here so they might hopefully update it to the latest version which has many fixes and improvements:
