So a long story - three years ago my Qnap was hit with the deadbolt ransomware virus, this cost all my music which I have slowly replaced but more importantly family photos dating back over 20 years never recovered. I refused to pay any bitcoins. I just had to accept they were gone. Anyway over the last couple of weeks I have been indexing music to an old plex setup and low and behold there are all the pics from a Z drive that no longer exists. So my question is - if I can see these images they must be somewhere how else are they being rendered? where are they stored? Is there any way to pull those images to a file? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What you are seeing are versions of your photos with reduced resolution. They exist in the plex data folder as jpg files. Unfortunately there is no easy way to extract them from there.
