In my music library if I click the hover-over play button on an artist, it plas all the albums in alphabetical. The only order that I think anyone would really want would be chronological. Is there a hidden setting to change it to chronological?

Having stubbornly found workarounds for many things, I can offer two alternatives since I don’t think that feature is built-in.

Add each album to your queue in the right order. Haha. For only a few albums it’s not that bad and easier than #2.

Use an “artist title” custom filter in your library view to get just the albums from that artist and sort the list by release date (reversed). The play button in the artist page top bar will now play the albums in the order you want. You can also bookmark that search page and then just update the artist filter to play a different discography.
Interesting. Sounds like more work than I wanted to do. I was hoping there would be a general setting someplace. Or better yet, change it in Plex Server as there is no sense in playing them alphabetically. But that will never happen. Programmers never take any of my suggestions

I just discovered these advanced settings. I wonder if changing the AlbumSort value would change the behavior of the artist play button.
This setting is no longer hidden. It is available in the properties of the library (on the ‘Advanced’ tab).
And it can be overridden on an Artist-by-Artist basis.
I have it set to sort by year, but it doesn’t change the playback order if one opts to apply all albums of the artist.
