Play Dropbox content with Plex

Are there a way for play content that I have in my DropBox?

If you have one of the programs running that allows Dropbox storage to be mapped as a drive letter and if your content is in a sub-folder under your Dropbox mapping (Plex’s Libraries need to be a folder not the root of a drive) then you can create a library (Home video type would possibly be good at least to test) and then play from that library. That may work or it may not I have never tested it.

You can also try using “Plex it” to place links to the videos in your watch later queue.

I do not know if either of those work but it cannot hurt to try them. From what I have read in the forums playing files stored on in an online service using Plex is problematic at best.

The first option may work, but Plex is not designed to use Cloud drives, so the performance may not be what you expect.

Plex It won’t work as Dropbox is not a supported site.

You are right, then Plex not is for me… :frowning:

Thanks!

But why can you sync to Dropbox if you cannot play from it?

You can sync to drop box and use it because Plex put it there so it knows about it. There’s no way for Plex to just know what else is in your Dropbox or be able to access it.

And are there a way of install PLEX in a remote server with linux?

If you are referring to installing Plex Media Server in a hosted datacenter, sure, it’s possible. It would depend on the host you sign up with and if they have any limitations. However, a remote server still cannot access files in Dropbox directly. You would still need to mount the drive local to that server and Plex Media Server will access it the same as if it was a local server.
