Play local music files via web app

Server Version#: 1.32.2.7100
Player Version#: 4.100.1

Hi, wondered if someone could help - I’ve recently installed Plex to play music. I have a pretty simple setup - I have music on my PC, that I’d like to play on my Sonos speaker.

The Plex Server is installed on the same PC as the files are located and the Sonos speaker is on the same network. Under settings in the web app, the server says it is secured, remote access is ticked, no firewalls on (at the moment) and my library has been scanned. I have bought a Plex Pass and I’ve authorised my Plex account in the Sonos app, the Sonos speaker shows up under the casting icon (in the web app) and I can connect to it.

I can play music from my Tidal account via the Plex web app to the Sonos speaker - so the connection is fine. And I can play (with some fiddling) my locally stored (PC) music from the Plex android app or the Sonos android app (which is looking at the Plex server) to the Sonos speakers - so the music on the server can be accessed. And I can play locally stored (PC) music via the Plex web app onto my rubbish PC speaker.

But I cannot play locally stored (PC) music via the Plex web app onto my Sonos speaker - which is what I want to do.

Any ideas?

Many thanks

Thanks for your help - I should have mentioned, I have no issue playing music from my PC to the Sonos speaker using MediaMonkey or Roon. All files are either mp3 or flac, but I’ve only been trying the mp3 files anyway. I’ve restarted the Plex server quite a few times - haven’t tried restarting the speaker itself, I’ll try both at the same time.

Happy to reach out to Sonos, but as indicated, it would seem that Plex is the piece of the jigsaw not working, or I haven’t configured correctly.

Many thanks

Just in case someone else has this problem; I had to manually specify a port on my router and in the settings. All working ok now.

Many thanks
