I logged an issue relating to this in 2022 and gave up because although many people seemed to have the same or similar problems, there didn’t seem to be any solution to the problem. 2 years on and I’m back because I really want to get this sorted out - it should be possible to do this, right???
Anyway, the issue is trying to play music through Sonos. I have my music hosted on a NAS, where the Plex Server is installed and I want to be able to play this throughout the house on my Sonos speakers. However, whether I use Plexamp or the Sonos app, the end result is the same; when I try and play something, it simply skips through the various tracks in the playlist without actually playing anything.
If I use the Sonos app and point it directly at the .mp3 files, the music plays. Which kinda works, but I really want to use Plex to manage all my media, set up playlists etc and to use Plexamp.
I’ve checked previous posts from users and have tried various things; setting the Internet upload limit for example. Remote Access is setup and works correctly. In the logs I get the following which stand out:
“An entity does not exist with the type "servers" and id "undefined"”,
I’ve googled both of these but without managing to turn anything up. I am reallyREALLY hoping someone can help me this time because I really do want to get this up and running and it feels like it just shouldn’t be that difficult. Any clues?
Ok, further update if anyone is remotely interested. I removed a manual port forwarding for port 32400 from my router, did a factory reset of my Sonos speakers and re-installed my Sonos Apps and hence network. I am now able to use the Plex service through Sonos to play music, which is some sort of progress. However I would much rather use Plexamp, but still it just sits there sullenly before simply flashing up several tracks in the playlist and refusing to play any of them. Again - same errors in the log regarding the Loopback problem. I feel like I am getting close, but this is really, REALLY annoying now and I’m on the verge of tossing Plexamp in the bin, which would be a shame…
Hi - yeah, everything works really well unless I try to use Plexamp now. My music is stored on a QNAP NAS, with Plex organising the playlists and so on and I can now use the Sonos App to access the Plex playlists and stream music to my speakers with no buffering and no errors. It’s just Plexamp that refuses to play music to my Sonos speakers which is the problem
Spoke too soon. The playing music through the Plex service in the Sonos App now simply reverts to skipping through tracks and not playing anything. This is SO frustrating!
hey man, I had the same problem. getting Plexamp to play music through my Sonos speakers. I have just got it to work. have you authorised your Sonos to work with Plex? on certain devices it doesn’t give you the full options to link Sonos. when in Plexamp and you press the cast icon in the top corner does if show you the option to ‘authorise sonos’. mine didn’t using a iPad. I checked the desktop app for Plex on a windows 10 laptop. that showed me a option when I hit the cast icon to ‘authorise sonos’ but when I hit the icon nothing open up and It appeared to be non functioning. checked on a iMac with the desktop Plex media player app that to showed the ‘authorise Sonos’ option when hitting the cast icon but that again nothing happened it appeared non functioning as the windows version. I then installed Plex media player on a iPad mini, logged in, hit the cast icon, hit the ‘authorise sonos’ box and it opened a link to the Sonos website. I entered my Sonos login details. got a conformation screen that it was linked and now all my Sonos speakers are showing up throughout Plex and Plexamp. and it’s now playing flawlessly through Plexamp. Im well happy. try using different devices with the standalone app logged into your server. specifically IOS on a iPad mini worked it linking them. hope this helps. regards, david.
Hi David - thanks for the update. Got to say it sounds very similar to what I’m experiencing. I just gave it a go with my iMac which didn’t give me any extra options and then on my iPhone, which also didn’t prompt me to authorise Sonos. Unfortunately I don’t have an iPad, so couldn’t check that option, so looks like I’ll need to find a mate with an iPad and invite them round and see if that helps. Cheers for the advice; if I get hold of anyone and can try it with the iPad I’ll let you know how I get on
hey man, just to clarify it was a iPad mini 4 that I used. I picked it up on eBay for £46 to specifically use as a plex controller. that is the oldest iPad mini that you can still install plex on. you dont need a newer one for this. regards, david.
Well, another step forward I think. I contacted Sonos support to see if they could help. They suggested restarting the router, factory reset of the Sonos Move and to delete and re-install the Sonos App, all of which I did (having done numerous times before). And now I can once again play music through the Plex service on the Sonos App. Let’s see how long that lasts. Still no joy using Plexamp though, so will see if I get any more suggestions from them and if not will have a go at getting hold of a second hand iPad and try the re-authorisation trick…
Ok - possibly the last update on this one! I contacted Sonos support again because the fix didn’t last (and I still couldn’t use Plexamp). The support team were super friendly and useful and in fact identified that there was a hardware fault with my Sonos Move. They replaced the unit and now I can stream via the Sonos App and also through Plexamp perfectly. Happy Days!
