Hello, I have a few questions regarding Plex
I’ve been using Plex since 2018, almost daily, on a cheap PC that I made, enough for me and a friend.
Recently I upgraded my PC and with the parts left from the upgrade I made a new Plex server that’s more potent.
Specs:
CPU: Ryzen 2700x
GPU: GTX 660 Ti
Memory: 32GB DDR4
Mobo: I really forgot which mobo I have, some Asrock I think
Storage: 1 ssd for Windows, 1 nvme when I host a server for games like Terraria, and 2 HDDs
Internet: Fiber 1000/850 (down and up)
I also have Plex Pass but honestly from what I’ve read I don’t have the CPU nor the GPU to use HW Transcoding, planning on further upgrading my server at a later date.
The problem?
My server is in Romania, in my house, it has a fiber connection. I’m in France, I also have fiber connection.
When I start anything, be it a 720/1080p bluray or a 4K, it starts really fast and it plays (without buffering) for like 1-2 minutes, after that it keeps buffering, it plays for a few seconds, it keeps buffering.
I’ve looked at the Dashboard and the “bandwith” graph shows that when I start playing, it goes really high like 200+ and then it goes down to 40 then 10 mbps after that my video starts buffering, the bandwith graph goes up then down and so on.
I honestly don’t understand why it does this since I have a pretty decent connection on my server and where I’m watching. I also share the server with a few more friends, they’re from Romania, so much closer to my server, all of them (and the server) are on the same internet provider yet it also happens to them, not as bad as it happens to me but it also happens to them.
I try to direct play/stream the media since I have a good internet connection and since I don’t have an Intel CPU nor a recent Nvidia GPU to take advantage of HW Transcoding.
I really hope what I said makes sense, if not, please tell me so I can try and reformulate.
Thank you in advance.
