Playback Error: An error occurred loading items into the play queue

Player Version#: PS5 client

Over the past couple of days I’ve been getting error “Playback Error: An error occurred loading items into the play queue” when trying to play back some (not all) videos on PS5.

There’s no consistency in what will and won’t play. All my content is MKV, and the files that are refusing to play are blu ray rips at 1080p. Some movies on the same drive and in the same library will play and some won’t - as an example, I get the error on Avengers Endgame, but Captain Marvel on the same drive and in the same library plays perfectly.

No difference in the streaming quality - 10MBps (I manually drop the playback speed to that to avoid network issues), no subtitles, 7.1 audio track, 1080p.

Only PS5 seems to be affected - the affected movies play normally on Windows and Android clients. I rolled back the PMS install on my dedicated Windows PC Plex server from 1.24.5.5173 to 1.24.2.4973 to see if that was the issue, but it made no difference. Uninstalling and reinstalling the PS5 client made no difference.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? I’m tearing my hair out - if I could at least spot a consistent fault, I’d feel closer to tracking it down and fixing it.

Having similar issue on 1.24.5.5173 but it just says error on playback; some items play and some don’t.

Still getting this issue. Looking through the logs, I’ve spotted this error message:
