Playback Error - An error occurred loading items to play

<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

Hello,

I’m running into an issue where none of my media is playing from my windows plex server. I’m able to play the signal from my tuner (Live TV) which is from my HDHomeRun but I can’t play any media files stored on my server. Each time I try to launch a video I get the following messages:

From Android Plex App -Error Occurred Failed to fetch queue response.

From Windows Chrome Plex website - Playback Error An error occurred loading items to play.

Any help from anyone will be greatly appreciated

Which is it?

Thanks for the quick response. I went to transcode setting option and change the Maximum simultaneous video transcode from Unlimited to 6, and nothing changed. Any other ideas on what could be causing this error. I’ve changed nothing in my settings for years and everything was successfully playing for years. This issue just started. The most recent thing I’ve done was just add a file to a folder which is included in my library.

It’s Windows Server version

Inspect the plex media info of a few affected items.
Compare the drive letter and folder/file name shown at the top with the actual address where the media file is sitting. Are they identical?

Triggering “Analyze” on an item, previous to playing it might also be a worthwhile experiment.

Hey OP, it sounds like this issue:

thanks for your response. After skimming through the post all I could see them recommending is to reinstall plex media server and start from scratch. Is that the only solution or am I missing something?

I haven’t found a solution yet.

For Android, you can rollback to a build from around Feb 2025, before they started using the 2025 version number. That app still works for me.

I am currently using 10.26.0.2578 and I disabled auto updates for Plex, for now.

All browsers continue to throw that error on every library item I have tried. Different browsers doesn’t fix it

Wow….Yes it’s working on my android phone with the older version as you suggested. Hope they fix the newer version soon. Plex still isn’t working on my tv’s and other devices but I can live with playing plex just from my phone for now. Thanks man. I appreciate you!!!

Is someone from Plex working on this issue?

Just wanted to in here as well. I am having the same exact issue.
Running the latest version of plex, latest version on nvidia shield.

All my browsers throw the same error. The only place I have any successful playback is from the new plex app on my phone.

I would very much love to have a solution to this as well.

So I have been playing around with this issue since I posted and I found something that worked for me without any issue.

Go to your plex server settings, now go to your extras and make it look like this

Once I did this, all my videos that gave me the “An error occured loading items to play” is now solved.

I will report this in the forums and hopefully this solved your problem too. If you want me to explain how I figured this out, I will, but it is a bit long to explain.

I’ve just applied the adjustments as shown above in the extras menu and I’m still receiving the same error message.

Playback Error

Am error occurred loading owns to play

THANK YOU!!! This worked for me. Please share how you figure this out. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m also running into this issue in the Plex app on Apple TV and iOS but plex in the browser works as expected.

error occurred: Failed to fetch play queue response.

None of the above fixes have worked and I haven’t changed any settings

Out of curiosity have you tried also unchecking “include cinema trailers from movies in my library”?

are you able to make a test plex server, move a few movies you are having issues with into the test plex server and see if you still have the same issue? Just make sure you don’t change anything in the settings. Run it as is.

I first made another admin account on my windows machine. Installed a fresh instance of plex server and just called it test plex server. I than added a folder that contained the movies that I have getting the error on. Once the movies showed up, I just clicked play and they played. I then went through the settings one at a time to see if I get the error. I didn’t get the error till I included the cinema trailers from new and upcoming movies.

That is pretty much how I found this. Since it worked for me, I thought I would share.
