Hello,
I’m running into an issue where none of my media is playing from my windows plex server. I’m able to play the signal from my tuner (Live TV) which is from my HDHomeRun but I can’t play any media files stored on my server. Each time I try to launch a video I get the following messages:
From Android Plex App -Error Occurred Failed to fetch queue response.
From Windows Chrome Plex website - Playback Error An error occurred loading items to play.
Thanks for the quick response. I went to transcode setting option and change the Maximum simultaneous video transcode from Unlimited to 6, and nothing changed. Any other ideas on what could be causing this error. I’ve changed nothing in my settings for years and everything was successfully playing for years. This issue just started. The most recent thing I’ve done was just add a file to a folder which is included in my library.
Inspect the plex media info of a few affected items.
Compare the drive letter and folder/file name shown at the top with the actual address where the media file is sitting. Are they identical?
Triggering “Analyze” on an item, previous to playing it might also be a worthwhile experiment.
thanks for your response. After skimming through the post all I could see them recommending is to reinstall plex media server and start from scratch. Is that the only solution or am I missing something?
Wow….Yes it’s working on my android phone with the older version as you suggested. Hope they fix the newer version soon. Plex still isn’t working on my tv’s and other devices but I can live with playing plex just from my phone for now. Thanks man. I appreciate you!!!
Once I did this, all my videos that gave me the “An error occured loading items to play” is now solved.
I will report this in the forums and hopefully this solved your problem too. If you want me to explain how I figured this out, I will, but it is a bit long to explain.
Out of curiosity have you tried also unchecking “include cinema trailers from movies in my library”?
are you able to make a test plex server, move a few movies you are having issues with into the test plex server and see if you still have the same issue? Just make sure you don’t change anything in the settings. Run it as is.
I first made another admin account on my windows machine. Installed a fresh instance of plex server and just called it test plex server. I than added a folder that contained the movies that I have getting the error on. Once the movies showed up, I just clicked play and they played. I then went through the settings one at a time to see if I get the error. I didn’t get the error till I included the cinema trailers from new and upcoming movies.
That is pretty much how I found this. Since it worked for me, I thought I would share.
I am trying to avoid having to start from scratch and setup another plex server. I am able to successfully play all movies with an older version of plex app on my android Samsung phone. I’m also able to play all movies from both my nvidia shield devices. If the problem was with my server it would seem like I wouldn’t be able to play any movie from any source. The problem is only occuring when I attempt to play video from my Smart TV via plex app, Roku, or from my web browser.
If uninstalling and re-setting up a plex server is my only choice, then I guess I’ll have to try it but it seems like with what others are saying, that doesn’t always work as well. Seems like this problem started with plex newest versions of software.
Why I recommended just to do a quick test server. If you are nervous or unsure how to do that, I can walk you through it. It is a very easy process. Should take at most about 15 minutes maybe even faster and when done, test plex servers can be removed.
I myself, whenever I am having an issue with plex, I always run spin up a test plex server. Just vanilla out of the box and see if the issues is still there. Reason being, same as yourself, I don’t want to start from scratch on my server. If I do, I will take months to rebuild all my metadata and get it back to where it is. So, I absolutely feel you that starting from scratch is so far the last thing anyone wants to do.
Web browsers are tricky I would say. Reminds me of when plex and tidal were a match and if you wanted to play tidal music through plex on edge browser, you would get a playback error. But on chrome, firefox or other browsers were just fine. So, I would ask, have you tried other browsers besides the one you use?
Most likely there is nothing wrong with your server but client side not talking with the server correctly. Usually that comes down to versions of the apps and/or version of server all working together.
Thanks for all your help thus far. I do have another pc i could test it on. Yes I’m not as knowledgeable setting up a virtual machine from the same windows pc I’m running as plex server. So I’ll try setting up another server on a different pc.
The only Brower I’ve used to access my server is chrome. However the error also occurs when I’ve tried to access the server with my Roku, LG and Samsung TV’s. Using an older version of the plex app work just fine. Also Nvidia shields works as well. That’s why I’m really puzzled. Doesn’t make sense to work some places and not others.
I’ll let you know once I have a chance to set up another server.
