Playback Error an error occurred loading items to play

Immediately after the latest server update yesterday I have been getting “Playback Error an error occurred loading items to play” on most (but not all) tv shows, it doesn’t seem to happen with any movies. Even files that played before the update now show the error.

I’ve tried downgrading both Plex and Plex Media Server but that doesn’t resolve the issue so I’ve updated both to the current version again. The same error happens on the web app.All files play on my android tv with no error.

Any help resolving this would be appreciated.

I am having the same issue of late. Have you gotten a resolution?

After the total lack of replies people have had over the years for this and similar issues I deleted Plex.

I’m having the same issue too. I cannot find a solution - and Im now looking at alternatives to Plex. This is a shame given that Plex has been good up until this point. I’m very disappointed there doesn’t seem to be any acknowledgment from Plex about this major failing. Happy to stand corrected if I am somehow mistaken!

I’m getting same error on firetv and plex windows app. I believe latest PMS 1.23.0.4459 update cause the issue. I hope Plex will release a update soon.

I am really starting to get frustrated with this issue. Myself and family members were watching a series through the watch together option prior to this happening. Can a Plex employee reply with a resolution please?

FYI I found a fix my my issue. I uninstalled Plex from my MyCloud EX4100 totally and reinstalled it. The libraries stayed in tact. All of the media started populating and playing without issue. I hope this option helps anyone that has this issue. Best of Luck!

I can confirm my issue has fixed just after restart my windows 10 PC. Most of those issue easily fixed by just exit and reopen PMS but not this issue.

ive started suffering from this as well. none of my Rokus will play tv or movies, the chrome wont play anything but music. the win10 app plays movies and music and now i’m at a complete loss

Same issue here when trying to open some photos. Some photos give this error, some do not.

This issue seems new to me, haven’t experienced it one month ago around mid-Apr.

Same problem for the past two weeks. I can’t open any photos or videos from my “Photos” library using Plex on windows 10. No problem to read those exact same files from Plex TV or Android app. Another strange thing is that only Me (admin) has the playback error. All the others managed users can read the files just fine…

Same error with web browser playback using chrome but roku app works fine.

Playback fails in the Windows 10 app and browsers but it works on the iOS App. I noticed that some of the old photos still play but not the latest.

The bug could therefore be in the path somewhere.

Same here with Version 1.23.2.4656 on Windows Server 2019
Unable to open most of my pictures with the browser. Android App is ok to open all images, but some previews are grey.
Message in Browser Firfox (local and Remote): An error occurred loading items to play.
Restart of Windows Server 2019 did not solve the issue.
Waiting for the next plex Update. Hopefully this will be fixed.

Same problem. Only on some folders, and only via Windows (all browsers). For the most part I love Plex. However it is frustrating when you have a problem, can’t get to anyone, and it is apparent that although Plex claims they read issues put on the Forum. that they do not - inaction has proven that. This is a serious issue that should have been resolved immediately. I am also looking to see if there are alternatives to Plex, as they seem to be more focused on Live TV than fixing serious functionality issues.

Like most of you I have been having the same error, but interestingly enough two work arounds seem to allow me to still watch.

  1. On my N. Shields I am using Kodi with plexkodiconnect. This seems to be able to access the servers (sometimes with a little delay in loading).

  2. On my mac I have had limited success with playback using chrome.

Both instances seem to suggest that there is a timeout or other delay that may be responsible for the break in connection.

If it helps I am only having this issue on my My Cloud Home PMS. My Nvidia Shields are not having this issue with their respective servers. I am currently considering moving my files to one of those.

i’ve just updated my PMS to Version 1.23.3.4707 and i can playback all my photos and videos. Now the new problem is with the video colors that are completely bugged on windows 10 plex app : most of the picture is in black and white with some colored lines in diagonal. Android app does not have this problem. Bad driver ?
