I have a HTPC instance that never sleeps/hibernates/etc. On rare occurances when playing a file I get the Playback Error [existsorThrow] Value is undefined or null! error.

Logging to the server I see the following entries:

[Req#2515bad] [Plex HTPC for Windows] [redacted] Failed to create and set current playable media item - [existsOrThrow] Value is undefined or null!
[Req#2515bad] [Plex HTPC for Windows] [redacted] [PlaybackSessionController] we failed to create a playable URL!
[Req#2515bad] [Plex HTPC for Windows] [redacted] Playback error occurred. Reason: FailedToCreatePlayable, Failed to create a playable with the current play queue item! Message: [existsOrThrow] Value is undefined or null!

I can play other media from the same library but even after playing another item the item throwing the error will not play. If I reload the software I can play the media throwing the error with no problem.

This problem has been ongoing for a long time. It has persisted across multiple server and client versions. It is random and I know of no way to trigger it at will except that once happening it will not resolve till the software is closed and reloaded.

I have the same issue with my Samsung TV, it’s not consistent enough to annoy me (yet) but it does seem like some problem if you have the app open for a long time. My TV goes off every night. In my case I don’t have to reload the app or reboot.

I find it happens when I select an episode on deck, play it, then it throws the error. If I go back and play again (from season screen), same error. However, if I back out to Home then go back through the same steps, it works. Seems like some sort of frontend bug where the player is asking ‘play this’ but isn’t providing an ID, hence why ‘[existsOrThrow] Value is undefined or null’ may be telling us something…

Could be something totally different but that is my take on it.

Will turn on logging from client side and post back here when I have it again
