Playback error on samsung tv

Have you tried ‘prefer insecure connections’ as well?
But the ‘allow direct play’ issue is older I believe, since I have had to turn that on in the past as well

I am having the same issue, but setting allow insecure connections to “always” and prefer insecure connections to “always” does not fix anything for me. Nor does “disable bitrate limiting”. Nor does changing the quality to “original”. Some files play fine, others load and load and load and eventually say playback error. Also, no background music and screens are very slow to load. Seems Samsung really messed something up. Very frustrating.

Tried setting those same options - insecure/preferred settings to any of the three option and no change… still fails.

Tried enabling disable bitrate limiting… no change…

Restarted the app just incase, but no change anyway…

I agree quite frustrating…

@Stijn-v-I Just curious, hopefully you can recall , when the theme music did play, did the audio cut for a split second at the start of the theme music playing?

Also interesting bit about the certificate expiration…

will there come a fix for this soon?

Hey guys,

I added/refreshed details of my original post.

Hopefully Plex sees/reads through this thread and can resolve the issues we’re all having asap…

Samsung the frame 2018 here, same issues and the workarounds didn’t work :(.
Direct play is fine but transcode fail, “multimedia file type not supported”.

Transcoding working on other devices

Same exact error on Samsung tv Running Tizen Model is 2019
Playback error multimedia file type not supported

same issue here with Q90R. Tried reinstalling my plex sever on Synology NAS but issue remains.

Given the huge amount of owners of Samsung TV’s i suggest Plex fix this darn quick unless you want a mutiny on their hands !!!

I can confirm that doing what @Stijn-v-I recommends worked for me as well.
Always allow and prefer unsafe connections.

Plex server version Version 1.24.3.5033.
Plex App version 5.25.2 plattform version 5
Samsung tizen QE65Q70R - version 1385

I have the same platform and the same issues I have not tried forcing a trans code yet as a workaround a friend of mine was messaging me last night with the same problem not everything but most content is not playing now

I received a message from a friend who has access to my server where the contents with ASS subtitles were not being played on his Samsung TV.
I decided to test my TV, which is a Q70T, and I didn’t have success, as soon as the episode started I got a playback error.
After seeing the message about the day 30/09 I decided to change my settings for insecure networks, and changing forever I managed to open the episode.

Two friends on my server both messaged me Friday/Saturday about it being inaccessible (I believe they said that they could see Plex’s free offerings, but nothing at all from my server). They both have Samsung TVs, and I knew I had to muck about with the expired certificate for a non-Plex server I use to get it working again. However, it was a very manual fix where I deleted the expired R3 certificate from the Windows registry, not something I imagine can be easily done on a TV. Hope Plex fixes this issue!

Both friends were able to access my content using a PC/tablet.

Still no word from Plex employees… this update should have not been released.

My Samsung 82" that is two years old stopped working today on some titles. The fixes you list did not help. The movies play on my computer.

Plex has been playing fine on my Rokus, computers, etc, but a friend let me know that he could not play any HD content from my system anymore. He has a Samsung UN70NU6900 with Plex Client 5.25.2. Changing his Plex client to Allow/Prefer Unsafe Connections to Always has him able to stream everything again, although he says they no longer list the programming details, like the date of the recording and the episode synopsis.

What the hell is going on ? I have a Samsung 2019 model and it is supported. It stopped working 3 days ago and Ive tried all the fixes posted on this forum. Still doesnt work . We need answers!!!

Hey All,

doing what @Stijn-v-I noted, which is to Always Allow unsafe connections + Always prefer unsafe connections then completely closing Plex and reloading it does remedy the issue.

This workaround does support his statement about it being a certificate expiration issue which took place at the end of Sept.

It is not remedying the issue for many of us. I can get some films and shows to work from the remote server, but many (most?) do not work. Trust me I have tried everything listed here and then some. I have reset everything, closed everything, restarted the TV, and tried every combination of the various settings listed here. Many others here are experiencing the same thing.

We have reached out to Samsung to see what we can do to fix this problem. The certificate issues that have been making its rounds has hit Tizen harder than what we expected and actually affects all of the Tizen devices. In our testing in preparation for the certificate changes, we’ve only seen Tizen 2.4 with issues. Meanwhile, we’ve updated the post about the certificate changes and the workaround is posted there. We will notify once Samsung has any updates for us or if we are able to discover anything on our end. The 5.25.2 release – as far as we can tell – is not the cause of the issues.
