Recently I was going back to a series I’d watched part of before and suddenly I’m getting this error, even on videos that worked previously. They play fine in DLNA from XMB.
Attached is the log just from trying to play 2 videos that haven’t worked and one that used to work. Also is the xml for the files. SWTBM and CR6 are the first 2 attempted to play that have not worked. CR5 used to work but no longer does.
hi, i have only seen this sometimes when I’m pretty sure my external drives on my server machine were being to slow when spinning up. if i hit play on item again it usually plays fine because drives are spun up already. ( i realize this may not apply to your system just throwing it out there )
would you mind turning off verbose logging for server and reproducing again with one of those files. verbose adds a lot of generally unneeded stuff that is making sifting through the log hard
These are just a few that’s having problems. I’ve even tried optimizing them and they don’t work. Only in the PS3 app. They work fine on my Windows Store app, Android, Roku and DLNA on the PS3. I just get an error that it failed to start in time.
HERE MY FELLOW PLEX USERS! AS PROMISED
AND IF YOU GUYS ARE WONDERING HOW KNOW THIS STUFF ITS SIMPLE WHEN YOU RUN MULTIPLE SERVERS AND MAINTAIN THEM FOR PEOPLE FOR A LIVING!
Here is the fix for the press x play issue and meta data problems !
{NOTE: WITHIN THE PS4 AND PS3 APP ENABLE DIRECT PLAY AND DIRECT STREAM }
Step 1:
STOP YOU SERVER FIRST
Step 2 :
Go into your router and / or modem settings and disable UPDP most routers or modems will have this enabled by default the reason you have to do this is they need to build a fix so users will not have to do this!
Step: 3 :
Restart your server than
Go to http://app.plex.tv/web/
and go to server settings than click on the transcoder tab and click show advance and change this number values to this!
Segmented transcoder timeout: 120
Transcoder default duration: 520
Transcoder default throttle buffer: 120
and disable this option: Pause background transcoding tasks when streaming content that requires transcoding. Recommended for low-powered systems.
Step 4 :
This last step go into server settings again and click on the agents tab click on shows tab than click TheTVDB tab and enable The Movie Database than click on The Movie Database tab under the shows tab and enable The TVDB enabling this will fix your random media has failed to download meta data!
Finally update your library’s
I HOPE PLEX EMPLOYEES TAKE ON THIS AND TEST THIS STUFF THEM SELVES SO THEY CAN PROVIDE US AN AWESOME UPDATE!
IF ANYONE NEEDS HELP ADJUSTING THEIR ROUTER/MODEM SETTINGS PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK ME!
I’m guessing it takes a while for the error to be displayed after you press play, right?
can you wait a few seconds and then press the play button on the screen to see if the video starts? we’ve seen an issue where video is actually ready to play but PS just fails to start it.
can you enable network logging in settings > main and try playback again and post the logs
Yeah those statements are all true on my end! I will post back with my logs as well for testing purposes!
and i am awake all night testing new trans-coder settings!
{Please note: that i am under 50mbps connection intel core to quad 2.83GHZ running 8GBS of ram on the server}
{Also i will be providing 2 logs one where it failed and one with the transcoder settings updated that works 100% the problem is that the transcoder values are not high enough witch is causing it to go into sloth mode after like a couple of episodes! You will see when i release them early this morning i would release them now but i am running one more test on a longer tv show!}
I would also like to note as a server expert to add a option to adjust that “Sorry your title did not play in time”
timeout i think this will help cut down on the server load and give it a little more time for when you have a mass amount of people on your server!
{KEEP IN MIND ALL TESTS I AM RUNNING ARE DONE WITH JUST ME ON THE SERVER!
ALSO I AM TESTING ON THE PS4 AS YOU CAN SEE FROM MY LOGS I DID HAVE A PS3 AND STILL HAD THESE PROBLEMS WHEN I HAD IT BUT WAS NOT TESTING AT THAT POINT }
Unfortunately I can no longer provide any further logs than already provided. I’ve re-encoded the files and reduced their resolution, from 1080 to 720. It not works just fine, so I’m guessing for some reason the transcoder was not kicking in when it should.
