Playback Error

Hey There

I have a WD MyCloud Mirror, my library has been uploaded to the Public share on the NAS, I was able to manually install the most current app on the WD NAS with no problem and login to my Plex Server from:

  • Safari browser on my iMac

  • Samsung TV app

  • Samsung Galaxy 7 phone

The scan for my audio files with the creation of the new library is taking FOREVER, which I guess is sort of understandable with about 4400 tunes, but whenever I stop the scan just so that I can see if the player is going to play, I get this message every time. What do you think is going on?

I am able to connect to the shares on the NAS from my mac no problem.

So I am getting a playback error code s1001 (Network). I am not even trying to do anythinging with video, just MP3 audio.

01%20AM

Please advise.

An error occurred trying to play “Epic”.
Error code: s1001 (Network)

I am having the same issue but only with certain file types it seems. Some seem to play fine (using Plex via Chrome) but some file types do not.

Are you running windows 10? I’m told it’s a permissions issue and that you need to add permissions for Everyone like this below. I’ve tried this but not much help so far.

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-pictures/error-when-trying-to-play-audio-files-windows/16fb2a9a-f6ef-4907-bf45-c6ddf15183df

I also suspect this is Win10 not playing nicely with certain video types but I have no proof yet.

I recently moved my server to a Win10 box. I had no issues with these same files when my Plex server was running on Win7.

Bingo…it’s Windows Permissions that are blocking this for certain files.

Here’s what I did to get it working.

  1. Find the file in Windows explorer that does not play in Plex.
  2. Right Click on it >> Properties >> Security >> Advanced >> Change to change owner.
  3. In the pop up window, type in Administrators in the ‘Enter the Object Name’ field.
  4. Click ‘Check Name’. Make sure the check is successful. Success will have the user as {Hostname}\Administrators
  5. Click Ok, Click Apply
  6. On the Permissions tab, click Add, click ‘Select a principal’
  7. Enter your username, click ‘Check Names’. Again make sure it was successful, click Ok.
  8. Back on Permissions tab, click ‘Full Control’ for your user, click Ok to close all windows.

That should do it.
