I have been running Plex successfully for years on my Android TV using my Macbook Pro. I use a 5 Ghz network.
Overnight I have been dealing with buffering on 4K HDR content which makes everything unwatchable. I did an update to Plex on the TV app but not sure if this caused it. The file is 23 Mbps according to Plex and I am using direct play.
I have done extensive testing.
Tested WiFi speeds using dedicated apps which are between 200-300 Mbps.
Used ethernet connections.
Removed the client and server apps.
It still happens and literally content I was watching last week now just doesn’t want to playback properly.
Any other suggestions to fix this cause my perfectly working set-up just stopped working.
Server Version#: 1.23.3.4707
Player Version#: 8.18. 2. 25850
I just tried to play 4K (HEVC Main 10 HDR) content on my Pixel 3 XL using the same version of the Android player (8.18.2.25850) using maximum quality and there is no buffering issues here. I am close to my AP. I also tested it on my Firestick 4k with the same version player with no issues.
Make sure your server is not trying to transcode while playing. Log into the dashboard while playing and look at the session status and bandwidth graphs.
Also make sure your TV is not connected to 2.4GHZ for some reason. I know they fall back for random reasons and it can be a real PITA sometimes.
It’s very odd. I just tried to playback the same file through the iPad App. Besides the colours being wrong due to codec incompatibility. There are no streaming issues. No buffering. Using the same WiFi set up etc. The Apple TV also has no issues but again colours are wrong due to the codec issues.
