Playback never starts, then gets killed

Server Version#: 4.63.0
Player Version#:<don’t know>

A couple days ago my mother can no longer remote stream from my Plex with her TV app. Other family members have no issues, and she can stream via the web app. (Edge).

On her end, the video never starts to play. On my end I can see the transcoders start and queue up a bit over 1 minute of video. Then it gets killed.

When I look at the log files I see:

Any ideas?

Getting exactly the same issue with Transcoded sessions on a Samsung TU7000 (2020).

Direct play sessions work fine.

I was able to verify that direct play does work for my mother as well. She also has a Samsung TV.

hey, i have exactly the same problem with samsung tv, direct play works fine but not the transcoding…

anyone have a solution?

@dpeart or @kraven do you find a solution? if not, what is your config?

do you think this is associated with the certificate problem?

My solution was to increase the remote bit streaming bandwidth to 20MB and hope there is a Plex update at some point.

Luckily my mother has the bandwidth to burn.

Ok, what I found was Direct Play streams, are never encrypted. So by raising the max bit rate to 20mbps, which is what I also did, worked around the issue.

I then physically went to the Samsung TV causing the issue and altered BOTH ‘insecure’ settings to Always. And set the server to Preferred, and then Disabled for Secure Connections and the TV worked correctly with the max bitrate returned to 4mbit/720p.

Another LG TV has started exhibiting the same problem, setting the insecure to Always fixed the connection issues there as well. But I am confused as to why the LG had this issue.

So, in answer to your question, this is the same as the Certificate issue, even though Direct Play sessions work with the Samsung app set to Preferred, etc…
