I’ve been testing out the new preview, however playback on iOS is not smooth.
This seems to be an issue with the new video player added a while ago to the iOS app. Ever since then I’ve had stuttering and frame rate drops when playing media. However using the old player works fine and things seem to play smoothly.
Will the classic video player be added as an option to the new app?

Oh wow I hope this gets ironed out before they release it in 2025. Sounds like a serious issue.
I’ve reported it many times but never heard from any devs. Been reporting this for a few years.
Hi @knightmareride Could you share the media info/ XML of the file your playing along with details about your device?

If you’ve been reporting it for years then what makes you say this is related to the newly redesigned Plex Experience app?
Would be good to know your hardware and the video files in question. Maybe the device isn’t fast enough to decode the video?

Here is the XML file along with the a screenshot from the dashboard. It’s direct playing everything on an iPhone 16 Pro Max. However it has a lot of frame rate drops when watching. It just is not smooth.
However, when playing with the old video player on iOS it works fine.
Thanks in advance.
So I have some more specific updates. Playback seems to not be smooth only on an iPhone 16 Pro Max. It plays fine on an iPhone 14 Pro Max as well as an iPad 9th gen. With all the settings seemingly the same. Even on the same user profile and both are running 18.2.
I am not sure at all what would be causing this issue. The frame rate drop is very noticeable when playing- tested this on multiple movies.
Both are direct playing as well, I even screen recorded it and spliced them together into one video to capture it for comparison and it definitely stutters on the 16PM and not the 14PM. I would assume this is some sort of optimization issue with the Plex app.
Turning on Auto Adjust quality fixes this but obviously it is not ideal.
