Playback of show/movie stutters consistnetly

Server Version 1.41.3.9314
Player Version#: 10.24.0.1677

If I watch a show or movie, beginning to end it will play without issue. The very next show or movie I watch will begin stuttering, rewinding a moment or two, consistently during playback. Force stop the app and clearing cache (I always do both, not sure if one or the other would do it) will fix the issue for the current show/movie. Will repeat upon the next consecutive playback.
This has been going on for a few months now, I did at one point roll back to an older player version which helped for a period of time, but it has started up again (I assume the player was updated) Happens on both Firecube gen 2 and 3 in the house.

Ding.

So completely normal behavior I guess, and not a worry for customer service at all. Oh, download logs button doesn’t do anything. Let me know what other log you want me to track down if need be. This was from the moment it stopped and skipped back while audio kept going.

Plex Media Server.zip (322.4 KB)

so what is paying for this really for since customer service is non-existent?

Hey,

I can’t say for sure, but I was having an issue with stutters every 8-10 seconds on the latest version of the player for my Fire Stick 4K.

I removed it and installed an older version manually, also disabled auto updates.

This seems to have helped.

I’ll have to do that since I have the exact same problem.

As I said, I did rollback which seemed to work for a while but I am sure the update messed it up. So my question is, which version of the player did you find to be the stable one that you are riding with until they ever acknowledge and fix this problem?

I’m using this version on a firestick 4k

I just realized I was being an ungrateful ass, thank you for this. I have found it to be working as it should. Hopefully, nothing exciting gets released in any upcoming versions in the near future.

I am NOT marking this as an answer since it is a band aid, and the actual problem needs to be fixed.

Thanks again

10 days later, back to doing the same thing and I checked, this is still on the previous version 10.26.0.2578. Oh well, may as well just stay current and pray that Plex ever fixes this.

Still occurrs, still nothing done about it

Don’t see anything addressing this constant problem in the new version released.

Hi.

I installed the older version 10.26.0.2578 and it doesn’t do any better. Plex beta testing and cs is really bottom shelf.

Yeah, that version worked for me for like a week and went right back to this stutter nonsense after every successful playthrough. Pretty damn annoying force stopping and clear cache every time I watch a full episode/movie and want to watch something after that.

It would be SO nice if I could watch a show, and then watch another show without having to force stop and clear the cache every friggin’ time.

Recently got the FireStick 4K and I noticed the stuttering as well, BUT only with video files with the .AVI extension (yes, they are old). Every one I tried stuttered constantly. The same AVI files play fine on iOS devices, desktop Plex App (windows), Roku stick and Apple TV. One would think that all the codecs would be the same on ALL Plex apps, but apparently not. Hope it gets fixed. BTW, I tried Xrecode software to wrap the AVI file so it gets a MP4 extension, but without totally recoding the AVI file it made no difference to the stuttering.

I realize this isn’t the same issue I have been praying plex would fix some day, but I will give you a heads up. I gave up on AVI files a long time ago. The problem with those old AVIs is the fact that they often have old codecs being used that are completely unsupported. So in this instance, it really isn’t just Plex’s fault. Your best bet is to convert those files (since they are old and replacing them would be tough) with Handbrake or something along those lines. If you aren’t familiar with that, just use the built in Plex optimizer.

Plex relies mostly on the device for codec support, so in some cases it is out of plex’s hands. With avi files it is random if a device will support it or not. These used so many different variations of the mpeg codec what works on one may not work on another and vice versa. You really should reencode these using a more modern codec.
