Playback quality never original qualitydespite being on same LAN

This has probably been asked several times before but i cannot seem to find exact question/answer.

I am running the Plex app on various devices (not at same time), all located on my local LAN. I know they can take original quality as every time i have to choose original quality for them to playback.

The settings in the latest PLEX server should be so that it automatically plays back at original quality if the client(s) is on the same LAN - this never happens. I have also tried to set the network mask/individual IP address for the client(s) in the server network settings, but still i have to choose playback original quality for it to work.

This is happening on the Samsung TV app, Android TV app (through Sony TV) and Amazon Fire app.

you can set the default quality on each device in their plex settings. for example on the samsung tv app in settings/video/local quality just set that to original and it should try original by default. my samsung tv i have all 3 qualities set to original (local, remote and online) and it works fine. the only time it tries to transcode is if there is a wierd incompatible file type (i’m usually mkv so i’m fine) or certain subtitles.
