I’m using the Windows player, but even tried the browser player in firefox and chrome for desktop viewing; however, these are all stuck at 720p play back quality. My smart TV and xbox work fine though and output maximum quality (20mbps). I’ve tried everything I know to correct this issue, but can’t seem to get the playback quality any higher than 2mbps, 720p. Does anyone know a work around to correct this? Is there a registry I can modify?
What information is showing in the “now playing” tile for that playback from your Windows machine on the Plex server dashboard? I’m particularly interested if the stream is labeled as local, remote or indirect.

Since I’m connected to and playing from a friends server I don’t believe I have access to that information. However, I asked them about this issue and they said that they don’t have any restrictions in place to prevent full playback rates or even upscaling.
This is only happening on Windows app and the plex browser. So, I’m wondering what exactly is wrong since these are the only affected players.
I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the windows app and tried four different browsers. I’ve had a similar issue in the past where this has happened, but after an update it resolved. So I’m wondering if there’s a bug that needs fixed on PLEX’s end of things.
The default setting in Plex for Windows and Plex Web are both 2mbps 720p. You changed that?
I realize that may sounds like a dumb question if you have, but it can’t hurt to ask.
Are you saying that you can play the same exact 1080p file from his server fine at full quality on your X-box but not from Windows?
