I have a user and recently, no matter what they play on plex through their Xbox 1 app or their browser on their Mac, not sure why this is. the source material is 720p and they are playing it at like 392p.
Make sure that your remote connection is correct setup so as it does not uses Plex relay service.
In PMS check Settings -> Web -> Quality. Set Video Quality to Maximum. Make sure “Automatically adjust…” is not checked. Also, in Settings -> Web -> Debug, make sure Direct Play and Direct Stream are both checked.
In Settings -> Server -> Remote Access, set “Limit Remote Stream…” to Original. Make sure “Internet Upload speed” is equal to or greater than your upstream Internet speed.
You will have to select “Show Advanced” to see some of these settings.
Also, since you’re basically setting everything to maximum, it may cause buffering if the stream is faster than your uplink speed. Once you get the desired resolution, you can lower the stream settings so it won’t overload your Internet connection.
It seems to only be happening with one person who is doing it in Chrome. I have checked all the settings you suggested and they were correct. Thanks.
You also might have them try Plex Media Player if they’re on Windows or Mac. It direct plays almost everything. A lot less transcoding issues than with Plex Web.
For Chrome, check playback settings once playback begins.
