Server Version#: 1.30.0.6486 on QNAP TS-251 NAS
Player Version#: Amazon Alexa Skill
Mostly 2nd Gen Echo Dots in my system which we use regularly to stream our music. This problem seems to affect the 2nd Gens only. I have one 3rd Gen that I cannot replicate the issue with, nor on my Echo input or my Bose smart speaker (running Alexa)
Over the last couple months, playback continues to stop randomly after anywhere from 5 - 20 minutes on the 2nd Gens. Some times it will say it is connected to my NAS, confirm the album artist I request… then nothing…
On occasion, If I ask it to ‘resume’ it will continue for a moment or two, then stop again.
Does anyone have any insight?
I have been resetting, relinking accounts etc… the last few days with no significant change in behavior.
With 5+ 2nd Gen devices, I am not excited about the idea of having to ‘upgrade’ them … but music playback is their #2 feature in our house after voice commands for smart home.
Ok… quick update for others who might be struggling with the same problem.
Yesterday, I switched my ‘server update channel’ to beta (under settings>General) at the bottom is drop down choice. I then downloaded and updated the 1.30.1.6497 version for my Qnap.
So far today it is working better on my office echo dot … which is to say it has been play music from Plex for almost an hour (about 3X longer than previously)… we’ll see if it holds up.
I seem to be having similar issues with my 3rd Gen echo dots. Plays a couple of songs and then stops. But only does this at the end of the song not half way through.
I just noticed this post. Is it possible that this is another manifestation of this issue, i.e. playback is actually stopping when your playlist encounters a song which is M4A?
In my case no. I don’t have many playlists (mixed artist/album) this is happening when I am playing an album, so they are all the same file type.
Thanks for the reply.
Its falls into another category of Companies/groups jumping into create ‘apps’ and skills for things… then basically abandoning them… I like plex, but find the ability to access good support from actual ‘staff’ or experts difficult to access (not just other users experiencing similar, and giving me, well intentioned, but ultimately best guesses) .
The Alexa app for me has been buggy and problematic from day 1… and I don’t see much evolution… the ‘menu’ intro is exaclty the same… I’ve been running you for 2 years … I don’t need to hear “Welcome to Plex… you can say things like, listen to music…” I would like an option for brief menu prompts etc…
Ah, yeah, definitely not the same thing then. Too bad, I was hopeful we might have (slightly more) strength in (slightly greater) numbers.
I share your annoyance at companies that put up chat boards like this (giving the illusion of community support) and then completely ignore them. Sadly, Plex is hardly unique in this respect; they all do it.
