Server Version#: 1.15.0.659
Player Version#: 3.85.2
OS: Windows 7
My Plex keeps stopping playback at random times during playback. Think its perhaps after the latest update it was working fine yesterday. During playback it suddenly just stops playing and looks like its loading after some times it just stops all together. If i’m casting to chromecast the screen goes grey and the episode seems to go to the end cause it gets marked as played. It stops no matter if i cast from Android og Chrome and if i play it in the chrome browser. Other users with access to my Plex Server reports the same problem. If i push the stop button and refreshes it remembers where it came to and doesn’t mark it as completed.
It does this multiple times when trying to watch an episode. It seems to be about 10 minutes it can play before it stops.
Have tried updating and restarting the server, checked for update to my routers firmware and restarting the router, so think the problem must be with Plex.
Just wanted to share logs also. They are perhaps a bit large found out debug was enabled. But I tried watching an episode og Game of Thrones from around 16:12 (had to pause it though) but the problem has occured about 3 times from 16:12 till the end of the log. Hope someone can take a look at this since its really annoying.
Same thing happened to me, I reverted back to version 1.14.1.5488 and problem goes away, suspect they broke something, so won’t be updating until there is a new release
@ManlyJack I’ve been reading about this as I have the same issue, playback stopping randomly. I’m on a Mac server but still, I don’t know how to revert back to an earlier version. Can you help me out?
Not 100% sure about on a Mac, but on windows the previous installers are saved in the data folder for plex under a folder called updates, I just copied out the 1.14 one and then uninstalled plex and installed using that installer. Sorry I can’t be much more help with the Mac side of things
Same symptoms and issue. Problems began after I applied the update on 2/7/19 (Server Version#: 1.15.0.659).
Seems to make it 8 minutes on my system before the transcoder crashes. When I look at my PMS system, I have a Windows App Crash alert for Transcoder.exe.
Before this, I’ve never had a single issue transcoding and have been running PMS since mid-2015.
Figured a revert back would fix the problem, for now I will leave mine broken in case the plex team needs more info. But if it takes a week or so i might get too annoyed. It takes 20-30 restarts to watch a movie, don’t think i can live with that too long
Edit: since it started just skipping to the end instead of stopping the episode I will revert it back.
Chiming in also. running plex server version 1.15.0.659 (win 7 pro 64bit)
but its not so random for me - roughly every 10min 10sec, the playback in the web player will hang. have to stop the playback and resume to get another 10min
when playing the same content from my iPhone, the playback actually exits the show rather than hang
very annoying. I’ve not yet sifted the logs to try and see what might be happening, but it is new behaviour as of a week or two back for me.
I’m having the same issue. When using Android to cast to a Chromecast Ultra playback halts after 2 minutes. On my desktop using the web player it halts after 10 minutes. Going to try reverting as it makes watching anything (especially in my theater room) unbearable.
If I Chromecast or cast to directly to my samsung TV, it is between 8 and 10 minutes before it hangs.
Watching directly on an android phone is no problem. Don’t really want to revert right now, but if there in no fix in a couple days, will have to try that.
Reverting was actually a lot simpler than I thought it was going to be and took less time than I was loosing to restarting.
Exit Plex with the tray icon.
Open Start, type “remove” and pick ‘Add or remove programs’.
Scroll down the list to ‘Plex Media Server’ and uninstall it.
Win+R paste in - %LocalAppData%\Plex Media Server\Updates
Open the latest folder before 1.15.0 and run that installer.
I had the stopping during playback after the update a couple of days before 1.15.0.659 but they stopped when I installed 659 … until today. So far it is only affecting one video file (unlike before when all were the same). It stops every 6:29 minutes exactly, it is always the same time gap every time. It takes 8 restarts to watch a 1 hour video. Is there another update on the way to fix this for good?
I am running PMS on Windows 7 64 bit and using Roku 3 as the player.
I have found that with Plex Server 1.15.0.659 running on Synology playback stops about 30 seconds before the end of the show, pauses, then returns to the menu with the show marked as “read”. This reminds me of an earlier error when a buffer could not be filled during playback - either because of network or server issues or the end of the file - and playback would abort I have seen it with Windows/Firefox client and with Roku Ultra client… It also happened when using Linux/Ubuntu (18.04) Plex Server 1.15.0.659, although at a different end point (about 15 seconds before the end of the file).
Have the same issue with PMS for WIN 7 Pro x64 bit. Playback hangs after about 10 minutes of play time. Reverted back to 1.14.1.5488, fixed the issue. Has to be a bad update.
Yup same issue on server 2012 R2, reverted server back to 1.14 and no problems at all, prior it would kill multiple transcoders and just hang multiple times during playback on multiple clients, the current version of PMS is bugged to the ass and didnt go through QC very well or they would have detected this.
I didn’t really want to revert back to an older version of PMS so I explored other options. Not sure which fixed this as I did both at once (dumb, I know).
PMS install utility repair option.
New version released last night, and installed.
This has been happening for me through 3 versions of PMS so I suspect it’s the repair process that fixed it.
I think it may be the new version rather than the repair process; I have had the issue through 2/3 versions as well. I installed it last week soon after it was released and the stopping during playback has gone away (for the moment!). That wasn’t mentioned as one of the fixes in the update but let’s hope that 1.15.1.707 has resolved the issue.
