Player Experience on Plex-for-Windows?

So, I’ve been patient. Figured that it was a simple oversight that they left the Plex-for-Windows client off the list of upcoming clients in the announcement thread here. But it’s been 3 months since, and still no Player Experience for the Plex Windows app.

Are you ever going to add these features (which seem ridiculously simple to implement) on this app, or are you expecting me to use the HTPC version? I often play videos on my second monitor while gaming, and HTPC I thought was supposed to be for remote-based control schemes, not mouse-based.

This isn’t the first time the Plex-Windows app has missing functionality compared to the HTPC version. They removed the ability to “cast” (technically remote control) from my iphone app to the Windows app, and the only response I got to it was to “use the HTPC version instead”.

Is the HTPC the primary app, and Plex-for-Windows is being deprecated? Why is it still getting patches?

Plex web and the regular desktop client keep getting updated… so I suppose they’re not deprecated/discontinued.
Based on the announcement you’ve linked above it appears the player experience features are however focusing on the mobile and big-screen apps. That includes Plex HTPC but not Plex Web / the regular desktop apps (the announcement specifically mentions the player experience features have yet to be added to the iOS and tvOS clients, not mentioning any other clients → namely Plex Web and the regular desktop apps).

Right. My primary media consumption is my secondary monitor, for which the Plex Windows app (non-HTPC) is perfect for that. For for this app in particular to be left out of the announcement -even for future planned clients- is bizarre to me.

Does it seem to you that the HTPC app might be just as functional for my purpose? Does the HTPC app operate (GUI, look/feel) similar to the other Windows app, such that I could swap my client over to that with minimal re-learning?

I guess the idea is that if you’re sitting at the same device with a mouse and keyboard, there’s less of a hurdle linked to the (missing) player experience features.

Based on the few times I’ve been using/testing the HTPC client… I suppose that should be the case. My personal use case is more focused on watching movies/shows from a couch on a streaming box.

I hope that is not the only reason they have not added auto-skip intro/credits/commercials and reduction of the next-episode countdown timer. It seems to me that you are kind of just as likely to have a remote in your hands as I am to be able to tab over to my second monitor mid-game to click a tiny button to skip intro or skip the 10 second “up next” countdown.

For the rest of the player experience (quality suggestions), I don’t require.

A bump, I suppose. I’d like word from Plex to know if the Player Experience is going to ever come to the Plex-for-Windows app at all. If I know it is NOT, then I can work at transitioning to a new app.

Seems strange to me that they’d leave it out of this app.
