Hey guys, I am running a setup with a server on Windows 10 (1.18.5.2309) and multiple clients (phones, Windows machines, FireTV etc.).
Most of my media is encoded with x265 in an mkv container.
I can direct-play on pretty much any device without problems, but for some reasons I am unable to do so on my Windows machines, mainly my Surface Book 1 (i5 6300U, Intel HD Graphics 520).
I have two problems:
- The Plex software (Latest version 1.6.2.994, tried multiple different versions including old Plex Media Player versions) is running terribly slow, like 5-10fps while scrolling through my libraries. Very unpleasant to use.
- It is absolutely impossible to direct-play any movie via direct-play/direct-stream. The player crashes immediately. Transcoding to h264 is fine, but I would really like to be able to direct-play. The machine is natively able to hardware-decode the files when the exact same files are stored locally, so the problem has to be plex.
While using the browser I dont see any of these problems, but of course direct-play with x265-content is not possible there.
If you have any advice I would be very happy to hear about it, it really sucks to have paid for a lifetime pass and effectively not being able to use it properly. Thank you very much in advance…
