Player Pauses At End Of File, Does Not Advance To Up Next Screen

Anyone else had this issue? I’ve noticed it mostly with TV shows, but when I get to the end of an episode, instead of advancing to the Up Next screen, Plex will just freeze at the end of the video file, leaving a black screen on the television. I’ve been having this issue for several weeks now and I’d love to see it go away.

Plex app version 2.13 was recently released for tvOS. Try installing that and see if you can replicate the issue.

I upgraded my Plex server to match your version and I’m running the latest Plex app (v 2.13) on tvOS and I cannot replicate your issue.

Just tried the player update, and that didn’t seem to solve the problem.

I tried again and it worked fine. the only thing that was different was that i closed the FTP client and Music app on the Mac Mini that hosts the server. However that was never an issue before.

Still having this issue. Just happened, and nothing is running on the server but the server software and safari. If i look at the dashboard, it shows the program status as still playing with the timer currently at 28:28 / 27:30.

Not that I need to speak for Elan but I will mention a couple of things:

  1. You’re not even able to reproduce it reliably from what you posted
  2. It doesn’t appear to be a widespread problem as this is the only report of this issue

There are several things you can try that are possible fixes:

  1. If this is only happening with specific files, try manually re-analyzing them
  2. It’s slight chance but the Plex database could be corrupt, you could try repairing it.
  3. If you think it’s more of player issue, you could try deleting the app and reinstalling
  4. You could try updating to the latest server beta if you think it’s a server issue
  5. Is this happening with any other Plex app? You could try the Web player or possibly another desktop app…
  1. I can’t make it happen on command, but if it happens 8 out of 10 times, that’s often enough.
  2. so what. fix it. maybe it’s not reported more because Plex staff has a reputation of not being responsive or taking user complaints seriously.

as far as fixes…

i’ve already tried them all. i’ve done the plex dance. i’ve turned it off and turned it back on again. and if i wanted to watch television programs on my computer, i’d do so. but i’m trying to use my apple tv.

FIX IT.

I have zero power/ability to FIX IT. The above suggestions were to help possibly pinpoint the problem. More than that I can not do.

what more do you need?

It’s not clear to me that you have:

  1. Tried repairing the database
  2. Tried another player (to help pinpoint the issue, not as a long term solution)
  3. Updated to server v 1.18.7

What version of macOS is running and what mac do you have?

i have repaired the database multiple times, reverted to old database backups, i am on the latest public versions of the server software and the TVOS app.

i am on a late-2014 mac mini running catalina 10.15.2

And now I’m trying on iOS and when I get to the end of an episode, i get the “loading” pinwheel or whatever, then it jumps back to the last 10 seconds of the episode and plays the ending again, eventually giving a “Something went wrong playing your media” or whatever that error message was that popped up for 2 seconds then disappeared.

so i’m just supposed to live with it?
