I have RasPlex 9.9.19 installed on my PI and it runs fine and I love the pre-cache and new interface.
However just like the stable release I had installed it only seems to play files up to 5gb effectivly. This is no good to me as I have a lot of HD 1080p movies that are 15-30gb in size, so for example I have tried to play a 10gb file and it stops every few seconds to buffer.
I have RasPlex installed on a 32gb High Speed Micro SD so I would expect it to use the space available to buffer maybe 1gb or 2gb locally which would solve my issue but it doesn't. I only seem to have this issue with RasPlex as when I use the Plex client on my PC to connect to the Plex Server on my NAS then all movies play fine no matter the size.
Can someone please tell me if there is a way to manually extend the buffering on RasPlex as this seems like a vital feature and what is currently available is not good enough?
Can anyone please help with this as the files play fine on my Boxee Box so I just dont know why ras plex struggles?
BoxeeBox has an internal XBMC-based player re-optimized several times over for its x86-related CPU.
RasPlex has a non-x86 CPU and uses a plex client very recently ported to the RPi hardware (thus not long-term optimized).
So even if they have the same potential, the RPi implementation has further to go to achieve its potential.
You can help it to work faster by giving it a faster storage medium and by overclocking the RPi slightly.
A fast USB3 stick will work much faster than the best SDcard (despite the USB2 port),
and overclocking can be done fairly safely though I'd avoid the max setting in the config.txt examples.
I use these techniques myself with good results.
Since you have a BoxeeBox I should also remind you that this too can be used as a Plex client.
You need to install the Boxee+Hacks to 'jailbreak' it and then add an external XBMC setup on a USB stick.
The BoxeeBox will then boot straight into that XBMC instead of the usual Boxee firmware.
(The primary boot is still from internal boot ROM, of course, but during bootup init it switches to the USB stick.)
And this XBMC version (an early Gotham port) is fully compatible with pecinko's latest PlexBMC addon updates and his Plex adapted 'Amber' skin for XBMC (Gotham variant).
Such a setup works almost like an official Plex client, and has the advantage that you can also switch to non-Plex XBMC mode to browse media not scanned for Plex.
