I’m playing music videos, generally .mkv, .mp4, .vob etc through the Plex client on the Nvidia Shield Android TV, using PMS on the Shield.
Where the files have multiple audio tracks I want them to default to multichannel. For example if there’s a stereo and a 7.1 track I want it to always play the 7.1 without manually changing it.
I can get this to happen with Plex and Infuse on Apple TV. Is there a way to get Plex on the Shield to do the same?
Even if the multichannel track is the default track, it still seems to default to stereo when playing in the Plex Client.
Plex picks the first audio track that matches your language settings. It does not pay attention to the default flag for audio tracks.
You could remux the file, placing the multi-channel audio track first and making sure the audio tracks have the correct language tag.
You could also try “tricking” Plex by playing with the language tag on the videos. For example, tag the multi-channel track with the desired language and the stereo track with a different language. Plex should then default to the multi-channel track.
Plex remembers track selections, so if you select the multi-channel track, Plex will remember that choice the next time you play the same file. If you want to reset to the default selection, then Plex Dance the file.
Thank you. I didn’t realise Plex remembered what your last choice was, so I think this is going to the best solution. I’ve got 40,000 files so tagging and remuxing is a no, no. It’s weird how this issue only occurs on the Shield tho. I’d just use the Apple TV but then it would be lossy sound.
