This used to work for years. Asking Alexa to play music/artist/playlist from Plex. Now i get this generic message in the title. Relinking/reneablin skill in Alexa had no effect.
Playing from Plex from within a routine give me the ‘Playing music from providor Plex is not supported’ but saying ‘Ask Plex to Play x Album’ does work ?
Did you manage to get it working again? This has always worked but suddenly stopped. No clue why.
No sorry. Amazon Support now claims this skill isn’t supported for Germany because Germany isn’t mentioned in the list. No explanation from them why it worked for 3 years prior of course.
I have to +1 this. I have commands like “Alexa, Favorites” which is just an alias for “Alexa, ask Plex to shuffle play the playlist Favorites” and others like child music, Christmas music, etc.
It stopped working around a few weeks ago, probably the same time the other users in here were reporting this problem. I’m not sure what Amazon changed or if it is a Plex problem, but it worked fine for a year or so and now it stopped working all of a sudden. Asking Plex the traditional way still works though but not via redirect command routines.
It would be nice if the Plex team could investigate this matter and maybe also reach out to Amazon because of this as they probably have better contacts than a random Amazon customer who gets rejected by customer support.
And by the way: this would also be a good moment to think about native Alexa integration again as this is still one of the features I would really appreciate being implemented one day. Asking Alexa to ask Plex to do something is just annoying. However, I noticed that it somehow works when changing tracks (previous, next), but that’s it.
Not sure what I did but today, I called Alexa support again to try and change the country on my studio from Germany to Canada because my echo show located in Canada plays from Plex just fine. They of course said “not possible”. Then i deregistered the studio and did a factory reset and then after re-adding it (again to Germany was the only option) it now plays from Plex again. This is just one of many echo things that just kind of “stop working” after a while and then a factory reset seems to help.
Probably switch away from Alexa ecosystem next chance i get but a quick Google shows that google has its own issues with Plex integration on the home speakers and voice assistant. But at least then i can cast from Plex as a backup.
Well I know that it has been some time but I just started using Plex with Alexa.
For me, in German, integration within a routine works.
You have to avoid phrases that are used by Amazon.
So, if you call something in Plex with words that are used for other purposes.
So, having the call: Alexa, best
With a routine defining: Alexa, ask Plex to start Playlist best
Will fail
If you call: Alexa, Plex best
With the same definition
It works
And you have to stick to the language requirements.
Don’t use Playlist in a German routine, you must use Wiedergabeliste.
Same with shuffle, you must use Zufallswiedergabe.
