Playing on PS4 with Plex Pass

Hi guys,


I’m trying to get some joy with playing videos on my PS4 having signed up for Plex Pass and setting up the app on my Playstation 4. However, I repeatedly get the “There was an issue playing this item” or just lots of buffering.


If I play it using the web application, it works fine.


Does anyone have any advice for me for any settings etc?

PS, I have experimented with standard settings as well as turning off Direct Stream and Direct Play and checking Prefer AAC.

If you post in the correct forum (Plex for Playstation) you may get better results.

you may want to try turing down to 8mbs or lower and see what it does. ( i don't have a PS4 but thats recommended settings ) https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/204377253-What-media-formats-are-supported-

Thanks guys. It’s already running at 4mb and still doing the buffering for a while, then giving the “There was an issue…” message.


Should this work out the box, or is there a suggested set of tweaks?

Hi Stonedhamsterza, the player settings in the Media Manager are just for the Media Manager itself - doesn't affect the PS4.

Feel free to post the Media Information for one of the files that isn't playing. What is the selected playback quality? Do you have DTS or AC3 enabled in the Receiver Capabilities section?
