Playlist of my own uploaded movie extras?

Hello Plex Community,

This is my first post. I just recently paid for the Plex Pass. I’m finding Plex pretty sweet so far, but as a newbie, I have MANY questions. Here’s my first. If this has been addressed elsewhere, please feel free to direct me to an existing discussion post.

Currently, I’ve just included movie extras / shorts / music videos in the same folder as the feature film. This is great as it allows me to create playlists of these videos or shorts. However, now my main movie library looks super cluttered with items that are not full length feature films.

I recently read there is another way to handle these extras that I’ve added. The article below tells me I can create a subdirectory called “Shorts” for example and put my extras in there. I tried it and that works great to clean up my movie library. I can now find these extras by clicking the plus (+) sign. However, now I can’t seem to create playlists from my extras if I organize them this way.

Has anyone else had this issue and have some “best practices” they would like to share? Any feedback / suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

There currently isn’t a way to include extras in a playlist or to play all extras. There really isn’t an alternative.

Hello MovieFan.Plex,

I think I did just find an awkward workaround to my problem.

I created a 2nd movie library called “Movie Extras”. I think moved all my movie extras (mostly movie shorts and music videos) to this “Movie Extras” directory. This was a bit painful, but going forward, it shouldn’t be too hard to maintain it this way. I mostly just grab extras from kids / animated movies, so not all of them.

This allowed me to keep my main movie directory to JUST the feature film. It looks much less cluttered now. Then from this “Movie Extras” directory I created 2 playlists - movie shorts and music videos.

Anyway, my new “Movie Extras” directory looks like the attached.

Thanks for the feedback. My way isn’t too slick or pretty but it works for now.
