As finally included in the Plex Media Server 1.18.3.2111 update:
- (Library) Don’t add duplicate files to the PlayQueue. This could occur when a single file contains multiple episodes. (#1340)
- (Library) Track watch status accross multiple episodes when they share the same underlying file. (#1340)
However this feature appears to function inconsistently for me from device to device. The only two Plex clients this correctly works on is Plex for iOS v7.5.1 and Plex Media Player v4.29.2. The listed clients above are all the ones I have tested so far that do not correctly move to the next file after playing the first episode of a multi-episode file. I am working with DVD rips for some 90’s cartoons, and because this was the common format for episodes of its era, this has caused several shows entirely to become problematic. Take Episode 01 of Spongebob Squarepants that has three actual episodes from title intro to credits. This file uses the correct E01-E03 naming schema, resulting in 3 entries for the same 20 minute episode in Plex tied to the one file. After playing the E01 entry which also contains E02 and E03, it should move on to E04 as it’s the next file which PMP for PC and iOS do as intended, however this does not happen on any other streaming device and instead it plays the E02 entry, again being the same 20 minute episode as the previous E01 and the E03 it queues up next, resulting in the same episode playing over and over. Is this a regression from a recent set of client updates?
The function seems to still exist and work as intended on a minority of my devices, but that this is the case with 4/6 of my streaming clients, all being different devices entirely, tells me this should not be a configuration issue on my end.
