I very recently set up PMS on my Raspberry Pi Model 3B running Raspbian Lite 10 (Buster), with all of my media and Plex data on an external hard drive. I properly organized all of my movies, added them to my library, downloaded the Plex app for my PS4, and logged in and connected to the server without any issue.
However, whenever I try to play any video, it loads for a few seconds, then hits me with this:
Playback Error
Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error.
I’ve checked my logs and this seems to be the culprit (from “Plex Media Server.log”):

As shown in the log, I reproduced the error at 21:42:00 local time.
It seems clear to me that the “Unrecognized option” is what’s causing the playback failure, but I have no clue what could be causing that transcoder error in the first place. I have done relentless searching on Google and these forums, and I’ve found a few people who have similar errors in their logs, but no solution to my issue yet.
It’s worth noting that I have tried on my MacBook Pro, both through the Plex Media Player app on Mac and through my Firefox web browser, and the videos play without issue. I have tried several movies from my library - all of them work on my Mac, all of them give the transcoding error on my PS4.
I’m not sure if this is relevant, but I have a bit of a quirky network setup. My Raspberry Pi 3B and PS4 are connected to the same Linksys router’s network (Raspberry Pi via ethernet cable, PS4 via WiFi, but the PS4 is only like 6 feet from the router), but the Linksys router is receiving its connection to the outside world from another Netgear router, acting as an access point/range extender for the Netgear router’s network. This shouldn’t matter, though, since PMS on the Raspberry Pi is communicating through the same LAN with the PS4 Plex player.
Attached below is a ZIP file with all of my PMS logs, as well as the XML media information for the movie I used to reproduce the issue - though to reiterate, this issue happens with all videos I’ve tried to play from my library. I really hope I get this solved, as the whole reason I set up PMS was so I could watch movies on my TV instead of my laptop!
