Please add a setting to disable automatic advance to next video

If one falls asleep watching, you wake up the next morning with several videos marked watched then one must determine where they were, rendering the watched status indicator pretty useless.

This is called Auto Play/ Post Play and there is overwhelming community hate for this feature, across all clients. The fact that there is no way to turn either off is especially nasty. Please Plex Team, acknowledge the MASSIVE negative feedback and allow users to turn this off across all clients!!! If you agree, please ā€œlikeā€ the first post.

Many more going back to when this disaster was implemented…

It’s hard for my daughter to stop watching her kids’ shows when Plex just keeps starting new episodes. And even though we’re close, we sometimes miss the temporary silence and a new episode begins before we have a chance to stop it – and then it’s difficult to stop when an episode is already running.

Both my Shield and my iPhone have a setting that does this under Settings -> Experience -> Auto Play that says ā€œPlay ā€˜Up Next’ videos automaticallyā€ that you can just turn off. Do all players not have this or am I missing something?

@rwoffice Does it work tho? On Chromecast, this setting exists, but it does nothing.

That’s a pretty great question! I’ve actually never tried it, as I’ve always felt that feature was incredibly useful. I can see in some of the examples mentioned though how it could lead to some annoyances.

I just turned it off on my Shield and I’ll watch some stuff later today to test it out and report back.

Update: So on my Shield it DID work. When the episode ends it goes to the Playing Next screen, but there’s no 10 second countdown timer, and the next episode doesn’t start automatically, I had to actually click play to start it.

Not sure how this helps, but I guess the technology does exist in at least some of the clients.

Last I check it did NOT exist on the Roku client, probably the most important place to HAVE IT! I’m not worried about it on my phone. I don’t fall asleep watching my phone. I’ll check again tonight for the setting in case there’s been a client update I didn’t know about.

Add me to the community hate list for this feature. It wastes SO MUCH time trying to figure out where I left off on a show a few days later after falling asleep one night.

UPDATE! IT’S THERE ON ROKU! Under settings, it’s call POST PLAY AUTO PLAY. Now to see if it works…

This post play idea is really terrible and removes perhaps the most significant value of Plex. Throwing a party and would like to have some music videos playing? - forget it. Would you like to run a TV series while you fall asleep - can’t happen … it’s just abysmal.

So the option is there on the Roku to either let it autoplay the next (auto selected) title or not. Just what I needed and it works. If you don’t want the whole series playing while you’re asleep (or even work, selecting a different series and playing thru it) then just turn it off. Want it to autoplay for a party? Turn it back on. Easy peasy.

That autoplay option does not disable the 2 hour timer. It stops playing all content at the 2 hour mark waiting for user input or it bails. Nothing easy peasy about it - pure defect. If your party only lasts 119 minutes you’re good to go - otherwise, fail.

Ah. I didn’t know that since most of my party guests are unconscious before the 2 hour mark :stuck_out_tongue:

I can’t seem to find a setting to disable the auto play feature in PMP.

Please add this feature on the chrome cast!

Not having this is a huge, huge deal-breaker for me. I’ve canceled my Plex Pass in the past because of the frustration of not being able to turn off auto-play on Chromecast, and I am on the verge of canceling again.

I don’t know if the devs realise just how much frustration this actually causes their users, but surely the fix cannot be that difficult to implement?

Keep it coming folks, remember to vote up (like) the first post! It appears we need 100 votes before Plex team will take this seriously. Never mind this is fixing something broken that they implemented…

I’m sick of this project, ima switch to Emby.

How have we still not gotten any response from the DEVs on this? I mean is this really that hard of an ask? There is already a feature to turn it off in the Android app, just make that setting apply to Chromecast as well.

I regret paying for a lifetime plex pass.

I can confirm that when casting from Android app to Chromecast, the autoplay setting in Android does not apply to Chromecast. So there’s currently no way to disable autoplay on Chromecast.
