Please add server setting convert automatically default

I was looking for a way to set convert automatically for all streams as default. There isn’t any as far as I can tell. There are users who have the appropriate equipment to play and do anything without restrictions and this would help tremendously.

I hate having to always go to the client and select that setting manually. Thanks you for the consideration. I have read in many google searches that there is an abundance of users wanting this.

This is Plexweb - as an example, but most Plex Apps have this setting wherein you would activate it - and it would be ON. Always:

Thanks for that. It isn’t always working I set maximum and I still have to use the client invocation of the convert automatically to get it to work.

The setting must be made in each Client App.
There is no Blanket Server Setting to achieve this. Unfortunately.

Default All Clients to Max Internet Streaming

My server keeps getting bogged down transcoding for no reason because clients have a low default setting for internet streaming. They are all capable of streaming original quality, and since I’ve been converting a lot of my files to x265, the transcoded 720p version ends up having a higher bitrate than the original does in 1080 or 4k. Please please please allow the server to choose to default the client bandwidth setting to original by default and save my poor server.

Been tryin that since August 2019 - so… good luck.

Some of that may help you, may not, but to date it’s not had to file a flight plan so we wait and hope to the sound of crickets.

This should not be made to be a one way offering. We should have anything and everything available to us as it relates to this feature. Some of us don’t worry about internet connection speed and personally I do everything on a 10g network for the most part.

We need the ability to setup the server to suit our needs.

The server would need to control the clients as to starting quality. I don’t see it being a major programming event.

Server Side control of content quality

Have a section in the Plex server Settings to configue default qualities (Local Video, Internet Video, Mobile Video, Local Music, Internet Music, Mobile Music) (Original, 20 mbps, xx mbps, 320 kbps, 256 kbps, etc…) and an option client side (default selected) to use Server preferences. This sould work in conjunction with Auto adjust quality even on “Original Setting”. That suggestion is so convoluted… No wonder nothing happens. My post is way more effective at getting the suggestion out. Blanket posts get overlooked.
