I got the email about the desktop app and was so excited I uninstalled the Win Store app and installed the desktop app.
Guys- it’s unusable. Seriously. The whole reason I use Plex is for sync since I travel and am on long flights often. I may have laptop power (win) and I may not (android). The sync in the desktop app pales in comparison to the old buggy store app. When selecting a season of stuff to download it downloads ALL of the season including what I have watched? Moreover, when downloading that season, under “downloads” the entire season is marked as watched, but it’s not. How the f*&^* do I know what I watched last?
I won’t mention transcoding or picking a download location as I noticed a post that said that is “coming.” Guess what - the win store app had all of these things. What the hell just happened? Can’t the Win store app be marked as unsupported and left until the desktop app handles syncing the way it used to (and frankly should)? I’m a Plex Pass lifer for years an years, and this is the first time I can honestly say it’s time to look back to Kodi or Emby because this is just plain unusable as is for me.
You can find the app in the store, it correctly you can find it under “All owned” apps in your account (mine still shows it). It is just removed from public listing, but if you owned it, you can still install it until Plex really want’s to annoy people (i.e. actively retract it by removing it forcfully from peoples computer or overwrite the current version with a dummy).
Completely agree with you - I travel a lot and need (not want) sync to function. The UWP version is flaky but at least recognises watched status.
Plex have said that there are issues with the new app (no sh*t Sherlock) and that a fixed version next week should address but I fear it will only fix some of the issues rather than bringing back the functionality of Sync.
Completely agree. While the old app was buggy but I too use my laptop for travel…
THREE main features were…
allowing me to select where to store the downloads. I have a Surface Pro w/128 gig built in storage and using a 400gig MicroSD as expansion… In the old app I could specify which drive. New app they default to C so forget about downloading much!!
Ability to transcode or reduce quality when downloading/sync’ing to my laptop. Sure I had to edit the windows profile file on the server to remove any mention of EAC3 or else some of my movies had no audio, but being able to shrink their size during sync meant I could fit way more movies and TV programs for offline use.
Watched marks… be able to know where I left off in a TV series before and after I left.
From what I’ve been reading, all three of these are lost with the new windows app
, I can’t find it anymore either…
