Please Bring Back Trash Can icon (or similar) for missing media

Everything I have is updated to the newest version as of this posting. I lost (again) an SDD drive that I had been moving many movies and TV series to. All my new stuff was going on there as well. My server still shows all the movies and series as being there.

Apparently, there is something in the server that has changed since a version a year or two ago because even (I know it’s not supported) WebTools original and the new beta version don’t show anything as missing from the server. It used to be that the server itself would have a trashcan icon over a movie or series poster if the media couldn’t be found. Why did that go away???

Can you please put it back? I am trying to find 100’s of movies and about 30 tv series that are missing. Clicking on INFO on my 5000+ movies to find a couple hundred that are missing is not really an option. Yes, I can match with files I DO have but really??? Since the file names are not the same as the movie titles (usually) that would be a task that is insane!!!

I am NOT cleaning my database until I have the names of every file I am missing so I can obtain and put them all back online. If there is an easier way to find what is missing please let me know. I did find (using the newest WebTools) that while the FIND feature is totally broken I was able to do a database scan for TV series and list them all…then in the file it created I did a search for every file on M drive (a good drive) and N drive (good drive) and O drive (good drive) and delete them. Then what was left is what is missing. What a pain way to find something that PLEX itself used to show us in the server.

Please, bring back a way to SEE in the server MISSING MEDIA.

Thanks!!!

Greg

First, ensure that Settings -> Library Empty trash after every scan is disabled in your server settings. Then, perform a manual scan of the library, or libraries, in question. Any items in the library for which it cannot find the files on disk will be shown with the trash can superimposed; that has not changed. If you don’t see that after the scan, it likely means that the setting above was enabled and a scan has already been performed. In which case, you’re in for a bad time.

Ok…so I made sure that checkbox was unticked. It was NOT. In other words, it was checked on. My server does a scan every 12 hours. And yet, the trash either isn’t being deleted or something else is going on because all the stuff that is no longer available (that drive is gone) still shows up as available to watch. Until, of course, you click on it and it says error.

But, after unchecking the box to empty the trash I did another full scan of every item on the server. Movies, TV, 3D movies, 4k movies, etc… Once that was done, the movies/shows are still there and yet there is still NO trash can icon. The server simply seems to think the files are there… Except that if you click the dots on a file and select to view the information it will show unavailable.

I am at a loss…

Try unchecking that setting and running a manual scan on the library. Do you still see the same issue? That is, media is shown as available when it really isn’t?

Edit your library
go to the “Add Folders” tab
verify that every folder path which is listed in there, is still:

  • existent
  • accessible (permissions?)
  • not a completely empty folder

Look out for drives which may have changed their drive letters inadvertently. This happens sometimes when you are using external drives and unplug some drives temporarily due to a shortage of USB sockets.

Only then you will find that Plex server will remove unavailable items when you tell it to empty the trash…

If this still doesn’t work, you may have an damaged database file.

I have the same issue. All settings are correct. No trash icon to show what movies are missing.
I had a HDD crash and lost everything on it. I have 6 8tb HDD’s and need to know what movies were on that drive.
I go to Info on the file and it shows missing and trash icon, but I dont want to go through 13000 movies one by one to see whats missing.
BRING BACK THE TRASH ICON ON THE MAIN MOVIE PAGE

Or you can filter your library by Trash (advanced filter option).

That’s what I did. Trash shows nothing in it.

Did Plex do a scan since your drive crashed?
You might want to look into the ExportTools component of WebTools-NG. This app will create an Excel list of your libraries which you can filter by media paths.

Webtools has issues. I love it and support it’s development but even the new version has issues with the database. It shows everything as missing yet then says database is all good. lol Others have reported this same problem. I hope they can get it fixed at some point. I LOVED using that when I had a drive crash and needed my database list of missing tv and movies.

My situation actually got fixed. And I hate that I can’t tell you exactly what I did. I know I followed everyones suggestions. I saved a backup of my database then did a rescan. I wish I had written down what I did step by step but at some point I rebooted everything and there were my trash cans. Actually, come to think about it, there was a server update as I was working on all this and it worked after that update. Honestly I remember thinking that maybe they found there was a bug in the server and fixed it. Because after that update it worked. And it’s still working now, thank God, as I am still rebuilding the lost files.
