Please expand your acceptance of H.265 (sorry I got this wrong and thanks for the replies)

Hi

H.265 is an increasingly popular codec, to the point where H.264 is becoming rare for new files. Currently PLEX only supports a limited acceptance of this format (for example, can’t be 10-bit, can’t be mkv, must be mp4, etc)

Please work to expand the viability of this filetype/codec.

Can you provide specific examples?

Plex supports 10-bit HEVC video in MKV containers.

The vast majority of 4K HDR movies on my server are in MKV containers.

Some Plex clients may have limited support for 10-bit video or MP4 containers. In that case Plex will have to transcode or remux the media.

What ^^ he said. I’m changing this to a discussion. If you can identify something specific that needs support, we can change it back to a feature request for that.

Codec support is extremely dependent on client type and the specific hardware where that client is running on. So you should at least mention on which your statements are based.

To be clear. You labeled this as server-windows, so my comment above is related to supporting H265 in Plex Media Server, which it already does.

Live transcoding 4K HDR 10 with the GPU on windows isn’t currently support is perhaps what he meant.

I just switched my PMS to ubuntu so it will. Or rather am still moving to ubuntu.
