This post started out in Plex For Android, then I put it in Plex Ninjas, and then it was suggested I post here as an idea for any/all apps. Basically, I’m getting a little disappointed with Plex’s changes to the skipback duration in the Android app - it was recent shortened from 15 seconds down to 10 seconds, which is shorter than I’d like. I’d like to have the option in settings, to change the rewind button to a duration I choose, in seconds. Android is my primary platform, but of course other platforms would also benefit from this if their developers chose.
I’m suprised. I paid over $100 for this service but something as important and simple as customize seek/skip still hasn’t been implemented after 4 years.
I just got a notification that other similar requests had been closed, because this one - with 10 votes - had the most votes. Yeesh. I guess it is not a very popular request after all, with 10 votes after 5 years.
And to be fair, you pay a lot more than $100 a year for netflix… and netflix does not give you a customizable amount of time to skip backwards, either…
Netflix actually has this feature. It is called double-tap, or triple-tap to get 20 or 30 seconds respectively.
Plex, on the other hand, has only 30 seconds steps, which essily skips too much in most situations.
I really don’t understand how/why this has not been implemented years ago. It takes an hour to do per platform. The setting doesn’t have to be shared across devices. I would even say, it shouldn’t be, as viewing behavior greatly varies between device types. So:
C’mon, times have changed Plex. Even if people don’t come here to post, this should still be implemented. Everyone I know who uses PleX hates the 30 second skip.
The 30s skip is insane, I’m so used to switching between different streaming platforms, that i’ll often click the button 2-3 times before realizing i’m 10x further ahead than i wanted to be.
To be fair if they had 10 second skips they’d actually have to fix skipping as well as I find that doesn’t work entirely properly. But yeah would love to see this
I believe with the Roku app, the side arrow buttons move 10 seconds in either direction, corresponding to the frequency that video thumbnail previews are generated within a video file, which is my preferred method of navigating.
However, the iOS navigation is back 10 seconds and forward 30 seconds, which is fairly absurd. Some improved video scrubbing techniques on mobile platforms should be implemented.
I came from Kodi and really misses it‘s skipping behavior.
For each press to the left or right it adds up the skipping time and also increases step size. After some clicks you‘ll skip like one hour and more. That was pretty useful and I never have the need to customize the step size.
The lack of this feature is why i am still using Emby. 15s is optimal for me.
Very strange that they cannot implement such an simple implementation.
Just send the amount of seconds to skip to the api. It would be very strange if the backend couldn’t handle it already.
