PLEASE HELP: How do I have multiple user Access one server with Each Has user Separate Recently Viewed content on home page/sub pages

I would like to have videos on one Plex Server be seen by multiple users or shared to another Plex Server with one key requirement that each user/server has its own separate Recently Viewed & history info/displays so one Plex Server User(s) cannot see what the other Plex Server User(s) viewing history,

Again I can use 2 separate Plex Servers (within the same local network) I have assigned/shared a Friend user for the 2nd Server but seems that that only has the second user able to log on/view the the friending server thus possibly seeing that servers Viewing, etc. history.

Thanks,
Don

If I’m reading this right you want to create a Netflix like account where if you choose a different user, they have their own view history, etc…

If this is the case, then this can be accomplished by going to Settings > Home Users > Add User

By doing this all the users will have the same user name and password (aka yours) and then there is a choice at the home screen on which user you want to choose (see here - Managed Users | Plex Support )

This falls in line with the Netflix style of choice, where you can have up-to 5 users on the same account. However, I don’t believe Plex has the Netflix limit of 5 users

I do want to point out that my understanding is that this option is only available with Plex Pass, which from your user name, it doesn’t look like you have, may want to purchase it if you want this feature.

Is there a way for them to use thier User login only but not be able to see/use other user logins? Key here is sensitivity for each user to only see their Viewing history or have anyway of accessing other users login or activity.

And if Add User versus friend is this then I gather you have to have the Plex Premium versions as I thin that is needed to add additional users

Thanks!
Don

Yes, this is option #2 on sharing your account. This can be done by going to Settings > Sharing > Invite Friend

Full read-up here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204226753-friends/

This allows you to invite a friend via their already created user name or a newbie to Plex via just their email address. They then get a link to sign-up to Plex and when they do they have access to your library. I use this feature with my friends & Family, I share my account to about 12 individuals and they all have their own log-in and view history, etc…

Thanks I have add Friends in not Premium version but to use that effectively for what I am asking the other “Friend” has to sign up for Plex and create a new Server (using the web app) then the shared content shows on their new server with separate view history.

I tried to do it without a new friend-side server i.e. just use my NAS main server but they saw the same history as the main user of the NAS Plex Server.

I wish Plex had Phone support at least for Premium users so I could clearly get voice support for what user config works best

Sharing your server is for everyone. Only PlexHome(your first picture) is available to PlexPass subscribers.

Sorry I may not be understanding what you’re trying to accomplish with your sharing.

However, your friend or family member does not need to have their own server to share with you, all they have to have is a Plex user id and password (which is free), I share with multiple people that do not have their own server but they can easily see my server when they sign into the Plex App via Xbox One, Roku and Apple TV.

Thanks for confirming, will edit my post and remove that blurb

Follow @emripoohie link. It is exactly what you want. It will allow you to share your server(any and all libraries) to your friends. And their account will be separate from yours. They are the “admin” of their account. You only give them access to libraries.

But to be clear in your case where they just have a Plex User ID & Password when they sign on or in this case are using a ROKU and click the app to get in do they each see their own viewing history only no other user view history?

This is correct, by sharing your server to a friend. They have their own account and their own viewing history, it’s not tied to your account or viewing history.

Great thanks for all the help I will try that again the first time I did it that way it seemed they were on my NAS Plex Server but the view history was shared not unique to each user.

They don’t get viewing history per-say. Sure, they may have recently watched but that’s about it. This does not apply to anyone else though. Their account is tied to them and what they watch, nobody else.

By viewing history, you mean playback of video correct?

Essentially if they’re watching GOT S08E04, this shouldn’t show up on your playback history. Then this is correct as it’s separate from your account, it will not show that “you” watched that episode because your friend watched it.

Hope that makes sense and solves your issue.

I’m trying to understand how that is… I mean Plex Home and Managed Users are PlexPass only. Were you giving out your login info to people?

Not sure it might have been just a perception issue on my part will try it again as per feedback here and see if it does not share view history.

Thanks!

Nonetheless. Never give out your login information to anyone. Have them sign-up(free) at plex.tv and then you(the admin) share only the libraries you want them to have.
