TLDR: captions are broken for sub accounts on Windows, Android, and Linux.
Problem experienced on Windows and Linux: Click a channel from the guide, it plays with captions showing. Click settings. Settings show captions are turned off so why are there captions? To turn captions off, I must first turn the setting to on (which changes nothing), then I can select none to get them to turn off. Annoying, but not a huge issue.
Problem experienced on Android: Click a channel from the guide, get a permanent black screen and can’t watch TV. On a TV interface device like Nvidia Shield, enabling captions gets the channel playing with captions. Turning captions back off, the channel will continue working without captions. On a phone you are sheet out of luck because there is no dedicated caption button on that interface and you can’t get to settings because the video never loads. I have tried setting my phone app to the TV interface, used a Bluetooth mouse to navigate, and can confirm it’s the same behavior on the phone as the shield. Who is going to carry a mouse with them just to watch TV on their phone though? Live TV on Android phones should be considered completely broken. Just a black screen.
To further confirm the Android black screen issue is captions related… If I start watching a channel on Windows or Linux, turn caption setting on the Windows/Linux client to on then to off, then play the same channel on Android, the channel now plays on Android without issue like it should. If I don’t kill the captions on another device first, Android sees that it’s being played on another device because it asks if I want to play it live, but it still goes to the black screen.
Problem experienced on iOS: None! Only device where captions work properly.
Solutions tried: Restarting everything. Uninstalling and reinstalling everything. Made sure everything is up to date. Tried many different software versions on many different OS versions considering this problem has existed for 15+ months now. I’ve tried pointing out this issue in multiple forum posts and have uploaded logs in those threads, but mods just ignore me and the issue. Is creating a new thread the answer? Guess I’ll find out…
Attaching a screenshot showing the odd behavior, and logs from the server, two android clients, and a windows client.
