Please please plex fix the remembering episode / position

Please plex for the love of god fix the damn remembering of location! its got to be one of the most fundamentally important things is to remember where you left off, yet plex fails time and time again especially with tv episodes to figure this out its infuriating, I thought in the past 2 years i have been using plex this would have been fixed by now but no! 2 years on and it still have the same problem. doesn’t matter what app, or what server version or which device its all got the same problem, please plex devs just sort this out, otherwise im jumping ship because this is really frustrating.

Try updating to a current release. 1.17.0 was released Sept/Oct last year.

the resume playback doesnt work, it resumes from a episode i had watches ages ago. its completely dysfunctional, apoligies my version was wrong it was from my old server my new server is on 1.19.5.3112

Works fine for me.

What player you are using might help as well.

Are you selecting the show or a specific episode to resume watching?

Screenshot in my post above is when I selected a specific episode. Plex picks up from where it left off.

If you select the show, I believe Plex starts with the earliest unwatched or not fully watched episode. Try marking the undesired episode as played. Plex may consider it not fully watched for some reason. Marking it played will tell Plex to go to the next unwatched episode.

yeah i get the same message too except its never actually where i left off. thats the point im getting at. it is so useless at remember where you stopped watching. it will be sometimes a whole season back.

as described in the first message it doesn’t matter what device it does it on them all, I have tried all servers versions and all apps including windows, android, chrome, ubuntu deb. it doesn’t matter.

it sounds like the watch status of your show(s) are not set correctly.

go to @ https://app.plex.tv/desktop

navigate to the show that you wish to fix (not an episode or season, the top show level).

click the checkbox next to the play button, this should mark all episodes as played.

after the whole show is marked played, then you will want to do the same thing again, to mark the whole show UNplayed.

now the show should be fresh and clean and unwatched.

go through each season and mark the season as played, or where necessary mark which individual episodes are played.

yes this may suck.

but if you want to fix your problem, then this is what you must do.

So this then probably points to some base problems with your PMS install. Permissions, wrong paths, missing locations.

If this bug would have lasted for two years a lot more people would hvae been jumping up and down about it.
