I just got the new release and I’m blown away at the disregard of proper process and feedback from the Plex team. This is as bad, if not WORSE than the Sonos fiasco. Live TV doesn’t work at all. All the listings are gone. Favorites isn’t a default. I can’t even find my favorited “Plex Live TV” channels.
In order to use the Live TV, you have to wait through a connection, which takes forever.
This is just horrible.
I love a new look and feel, but you missed the mark by a million miles. Heads should roll.
Plex iOS 2025.10.1 is a mess. I’m on Windows Plex version 1.41.5.9522, and after the latest update, casting is basically dead. AirPlay and Chromecast don’t work at all, and casting to Google Home? That option’s just vanished. Seriously, this has to be the worst update ever. What happened?!
The latest UI overhaul has a severe case of miniaturisation. The HiG recommend buttons and clickable icon areas to be big enough to click, and preferably possible to read.
On the iPad the play controls and ellipses to access eg. the subtitle controls while playing, are so tiny you have to squint to see these and be veeeeery deliberate and precise when trying to click these.
I wonder if it can be a case where a graphic designer was hired to do UX. It looks nice and all, but a UX designer would have spotted the usability issues or not have let them happen in the first place.
My suggestion is to add a scale option for the HUD (if style is preferred over function), as you have in some games where the graphic designer prefers small and tiny before legible, clickable, useful, and accessible.
As a software industry veteran, I would say this was an embarrassment. They missed all the fundamental best practices, which shows lack of proper leadership, training and a professional team.
My tip for everyone, for now … use the web interface on your mobile devices. It works significantly better. I say for now, because they will likely force this interface upon us.

Same. Many basic features were removed so you’re forced to use their “streamlined” interface. Also for some reason, my movies and TV shows are still there but my music library is now missing. Wtf lol. Hoping they will push an update so I can at least access all of my libraries again.

with the new release today i downloaded in my iPad i cant watch or view anything. when i open the plex app a screen loads telling me i can „Pick Your Favorite Libraries“ and a button in the lower right corner that says continue. I assume ther is supposed to be a list of libraries or something, but the screen is blank under the „pick your libraries“ heading and i am unable to select the continue button. I am stuck on this screen and cant do anything! great update plex! utter trash to make the app completely useless! i want to revert back a version so i can at least watch my favorite live TV channels again. is there anyway to do that?
Plex folks - first, thanks for all you do. With the imminent rate changes I was preparing to finally buy my Plex Pass…and then I downloaded the new version of the iOS app. There’s nothing I’d like more than having a Plex Pass, but there’s no way I’m making that commitment unless the new app gets sorted.
I think it would be fair to say the rollout was premature. There are myriad issues, and some organizational changes that I will simply have to accept. But one issue in particular stood out: the ability to choose which version of an item to play
Thought listed as improvements made since the preview, this simply doesn’t work. The selected version only plays back on the phone. There is no way to select a version and have playback on the TV. You can go to the item and hit play, but it is effectively dealer’s choice.
This cannot be how this feature was intended to function. So, a fix here would be greatly appreciated. And hopefully, with some other improvements, I’ll have my Plex Pass soon. Thanks.
@Beachside wow, you’re spot-on about using the web interface. That’s going to be the unfortunate solution, because if Sonos didn’t roll their mess back, neither will Plex. Although it’s worth noting that the Sonos CEO eventually got fired over that
Problem is, Plex is losing money and failing as a company. So the same thing won’t happen here.
I work in software too. When my company replaced its main app’s core component, we took nine months to cut everyone over and made sure we weren’t taking away features. This is amateur hour and smacks of executive orders to release this, born of desperation.
What’s odd is that I don’t see the value in alienating your core customers to implement a half-baked new UI that doesn’t appear to help Plex monetize more.
It is sad. I’m already in talks with a few about a class action suit. That won’t help anything, but it may help them put the final nail in the coffin. From what I have learned, they had a duty to their customers to deliver a working product. It appears they tried to isolate this in their T&C’s, but they failed to do a few things that cover the specifics of what happened here.

Dont forget they will be doubling the subscription price of you accessing your own media and the new plex pass will be 250$. They also added a remote pass subscription so you now have to pay them to access your own media or a friends media. Which makes no sense now you have to pay to use your own internet for plex. It supposed to take effect end of April but maybe with this disaster they will wait. (Doubt it Greedy is the root of all evil) Important 2025 Plex Updates | Plex
