Dear Plex Team,
I’m writing this as a longtime user and Lifetime Pass holder who is incredibly frustrated with the state of the current mobile app (iOS version 2025.15.0). I honestly don’t understand what’s happening with the new UI direction, but I can tell you this: it’s not working. And I’m not just talking about new features being buggy — I’m talking about core, long-established features breaking in every update.
Some specific issues:
- My favorite channels sometimes show up, sometimes they don’t.
- Picture-in-picture? Works some of the time. Other times, it just vanishes.
- Channel loading is now painfully slow — and I’m only referring to local TV here.
- The media source split (local vs. Plex channels) has made the guide experience clunky and fragmented. I’ve personally stopped using Plex media sources altogether because it’s just too unreliable.
- We were renting movies through Plex. That broke, too. Now that revenue is gone — not just from me, but my household and family members.
It’s gotten so bad that every time the app auto-updates, it’s a crapshoot whether features will work. That’s not how a stable media platform should operate.
The new UI may look sleek, but functionally, it’s a hollow shell. It’s like a shiny, modern building that looks great from the outside but is completely gutted on the inside. The UX is now unpredictable, unstable, and confusing.
My request is simple:
Please release a “Classic Plex” mobile app — based on the last stable version before this UI overhaul — and let users opt into it. At the very least, allow us to roll back to a version that actually worked.
I genuinely want to continue supporting Plex and bringing more people into the ecosystem. But right now, I’m actively turning away from it because I can’t rely on it anymore.
Please listen to your longtime users. We’re not just shouting into the void — we’re asking you to preserve what made Plex great in the first place.
Sincerely,
A frustrated (but still hopeful) Plex supporter
